Kasich, definitely. He's a better speaker than Jeb, can appeal to moderates, is currently popular in Ohio, and isn't a Bush. Kasich/Rubio would be an amazing ticket. Of course, it's more likely to be the other way around now.

Jeb is the most overhyped candidate I've seen since I started following politics. The guy has zero political talent.

Jeb at least is kind of likable, in a Buster from Arrested Development kind of way. Kasich is just an asshole. Jeb is my friend 2015.

This is the best poll on Atlas, because it accurately matches up two equally strong candidates. Equal in that they are the weakest candidates in the race. They have little understanding of the American public. They are highly scripted and cannot make on the spot comebacks. They use typical desperate political attacks to try to get their way. Thank goodness everything has backfired on them this election season. The only tolerable establishment candidates are Rubio (if you can even consider him establishment) and Christie.

Bush is a lot less hated by his own party than Kasich.  While Bush isn't really anybody's first, second, third, or even fourth choice, I think most Republicans would still feel comfortable voting for him.

Kasich, on the other hand, is seen as a total RINO, even moreso than Christie.  He's also too crazy and uncharismatic to win independents or Democrats outside of Atlas forum.  He'd probably do even worse than McCain lol

God, I don't know. They're both just so low energy. I guess Jeb Bush wouldn't spend the entire campaign attacking the Republican base, so may they'd actually turn out for him in the end. Advantage Jeb, but both are losers.

Kasich.  Both would lose big, though, as some in the conservative base of the party stays home, but at least Kasich's last name isn't Bush.

Jeb at least has that name. I'd say Atlas is about as electable as Pataki, which Jeb would be too if he didn't have the Bush name.

And cinyc, all the evidence seems to point to Jeb's undoing being his own work, not because of that Bush name.

Great post. I agree 100%. I don't know why people are saying that Kasich is a better speaker. Bush is socially awkward, but at least he can express ideas in a more or less cogent manner. Kasich looks and sounds insane half the time.

Kasich.  Both would lose big, though, as some in the conservative base of the party stays home, but at least Kasich's last name isn't Bush.

The thing is, though, that the surname doesn't hurt him, at least where the base is concerned. The great majority of Republicans still view Dubya favorably. Jeb is hated for being Jeb, and not for being a Bush.

Well, yes, Rubio is a stronger candidate than either of them, but that isn't the question here.

But in all seriousness, I think Kasich would be the better general election candidate. He seems more human to me, and would be able to more easily connect to the average voter on a personal level. Kasich also seems to be more on top of the issues and makes fewer gaffes, despite the fact that he might be slightly to the left of Bush. Being more of a centrist, while irritating conservatives, may appeal to independents in an election where his likely opponent is Hillary Clinton, a highly divisive figure who has become more untrusted as the cycle has gone on. The Bush last name truly has a fatigue to it, and I think both Democrats and conservative Republicans would have a hard time pulling the trigger for Bush in a general election. I know Bush has a lot of money and many point to that as an asset, but clearly money can't buy you everything, Bush has raised by far the most money in the field and is hovering in the single digits for Republican primary polls. I truly believe, and it has become increasingly obvious to many others, that neither of them will end up as the Republican nominee. But I think Kasich would be a better general election candidate, in fact, I think Kasich would be one of the strongest general election candidates in the entire field (behind Rubio and Christie).

LOL, I was going to say Jeb because Kasich was an executive at the Lehman Brothers in 2008, but then remembered that Jeb also was on their payroll. Both of them had a hand in destroying the global economy.
