January 14th? Isn't there already a scheduled debate for January 28th?
Is two per month really necessary?

I think it's a plot to bring down TRUMP. He's tended to go down after past debates, after all.

Ugh, why not CNBC? That I would watch again. Need me some Rick Santelli and Larry Kudlow.

Meanwhile, the DNC is sticking with only 4 debates before Iowa and 6 total to protect their frontrunner.

I guess I am looking forward to another debate, but I just wish it wasn't going to be another softball game on Fox Business. Hopefully Rand is still there to do the fact checking...

Yep.

It's worth noting that Priebus originally planned to hold the last 3 debates (of 12 total) in March. Maybe he no longer believes the primary race will go on long enough for that.

And scheduling them at times where TV viewing naturally skews lower.

Good. No reason for the DNC to endanger Clinton's chances in the general election. If only the RNC would do the same to protect their frontrunner, TRUMP, to make things fair.

You act as if Trump is inevitable. Since when is he hitting 60% in the polls like Clinton is?

Except Bernie has lost both debates.

The RNC and Fox are definitely plotting something.

Probably a ploy to hurt Trump. Trump has dropped a couple of point after most debates, and has done the best just before a debate, after a long debateless stretch.

The RNC (like the DNC) initially cut the debate count to keep the nomination process under their control. Since Trump found a way to reach rank and file without debates, they're now furiously trying to reverse themselves. Of course, it could backfire and end up helping Cruz more than Rubio.

That phrasing, "the surviving candidates", sounds rather ominous. Is the GOP planning on cage-matches to the death, or a Night of the Long Knives?

I think the GOP establishment would consider even Cruz to be an improvement over Trump.

We don't know what the criteria will be but last time it was 2.5% in average of last four national polls.  So as a point of interest, here is where that stands before the CNN debate (the last debate before the Fox Biz debate).

Trump   29.0
Cruz   17.0
Rubio   13.5
Carson   12.3
Bush   4.3
Fiorina   2.5
Christie   2.5
Paul   2.5
Kasich   2.3
Huckabee   2.3
Santorum   0.3
Pataki   0.0
Graham   0.0
Gilmore   0.0

Based on that Fiorina, Christie and Paul would barely make it into the main debate, Kasich would be in the kiddie table along with Huckabee and Santorum. Pataki and Graham would be out.

In the end I suspect that FoxB will add early state polls like CNN did, which should help those on the bubble.

Trump should stop coming to the debates and just live tweet them.
