Why are prominent republicans still endorsing Jeb Bush? Thad Cochran and Luke Messer both endorsed him recently. What inspired them to endorse him now that he has tanked but not earlier?

I feel like they're making an attempt to save the party from Trump. Granted, I don't think it will happen with Bush, but they're trying...

They probably endorsed him in private months ago and they are simply announcing it strategically to try and generate momentum. Unfortunately for the Bush campaign, Jeb is beyond their help at this point.

Thad Cochran is a doddering old fool, so it makes sense he would endorse the Bush campaign this late.

Cochran probably has forgotten what year it is, and thinks he's endorsing Dubya in 2000.

I am starting to believe again that Jeb isn't completely out of it again until he quits. He is far from the most likely candidate, but with the way primary polls go, it isn't over until the actual votes are cast. Rick Santorum should have dropped out before anyone else last time, and he won Iowa and came in 2nd overall. Its worth Team Bush going all out at least until New Hampshire.

By this point in time, though, Santorum was averaging at about 10% or so in Iowa and was rising. Jeb is still sinking.

Again, primaries are starting a month later, so push your analysis one month earlier into 2011. Santorum did not hit double digits at any point in Nov. 2011.
