Rubio is not only Hispanic but also pro-amnesty which Trump supporters despise. I know Trump would be spiteful and not lift a finger for the eventual GOP nominee and especially not Rubio. Do you think his supporters will stay home in large numbers?

Yes, but Trump supporters rarely vote in elections so it has no bearing

Trump supporters voted for every one of the last Republican nominees since Reagan. They're just tired of being sold a bill of goods by people who have absolute disdain for them.

40% of the GOP (or whatever percent say they support Trump in the latest polls) are not going to sit out the general election in anything but Atlas Democrat fantasyland.

You don't look at the crosstabs of the polls you salivate over, do you? Trump appeals to the most ignorant of the population who don't understand how government and geo-politics work

These people have been the backbone of the Republican Party. From Nixon onward, the Republican Party has appealed to racists, Neo-Birchers, and the ignorant. And the supposed "moderate" wing knows this and their policies and their institutions are placated on keeping that populace stupid, angry, and racist. Trump is merely an eccentric oppurtunist who wants to play ball and knows their language like a pro.

Without that 40-60% of the party (if you include people who support Carson and Cruz), then the Republican Party is a joke party with no following other than suburban house husbands and wealthy billionaires.

Have you read any of the polls? Trump leads comes from those who rarely or never vote in primaries or generals

I've encountered few polls that asked that questions to where I can see that in the cross tabs. Not enough to draw a significant conclusion, anyway.
