We've banned certain immigrant groups from entering the country before.  It's constitutional and sensible.

Are all of these examples outside 1999 "sensible?"

I'm talking about immigrants, not refugees.

Except the same kind of rhetoric used against refugees is used against immigrants, as we've seen the past month.

Yup will definitely vote for Clinton over this douche

Are you afraid of bold leadership?  Are you tired?

He's a Muslim who doesn't want to get thrown into a concentration camp or get deported at gunpoint?

Then again President Clinton's foreign policy would probably lead to more dead Muslims than Trump's reign will.

Obviously horrible policy, but not too far off from what other GOPers have already said (let's only let in the christians, as Yeb said). Trump is not special in this regard.

You're out of your mind if you believe Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio would ever halt all Muslims from entering US grounds. Jeb is calling him a fool on Twitter as we speak and his tweet is blowing up.

LOL. That one is clearly Unconstitutional. Hillary must be having the equivalent of wet dreams  about Trump being her opponent.

How would you determine who is Muslim or not? Check their names? That could affect Christian Arabs as well. Clothing? Not all Muslims dress the same and certainly not all Muslimahs (Muslim women) cover their hair, most of my female relatives dont. So I don't really see how Trump could do that.

Let's get real. Trump and his team know that this is totally ridiculous and would never happen, especially for US citizens and tourists, but that's not the point. He is trying to win the Republican nomination, and this will only help him.

So how far is he talking? Are we talking about immigration or all visas? (tourist, business, student, fiancee, diplomatic?).  I am sure this kind of demagoguery will go over well with the GOP but I hope not with the rest of America.

Looks like the whole nine yards.

So, Trump's proposed shutdown would also include the staff of the embassies of Muslim countries in Washington, D.C. then. Doesn't it basically mean that he wants to break off diplomatic relations with any Muslim country?

Is he then also prepared to call back all U.S. troops currently stationed in Muslim countries? Because I don't really see how you can have troops in foreign country without maintaining diplomatic relations with the respective country. Does this also mean that President Trump would revoke the "major non-NATO ally" status for Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Morocco, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tunisia?

Your signature got the best kick out of me I've received in a long, long time. I'm most certainly stealing that.

Newsflash: he can't, and in various cases where he can, he won't, do 93% of his policy proposals.

This would be a good moment for one of the other candidates to have the "Sister Souljah" moment everyone has been clamoring for.

I too hope that the other candidates will tack to the left to ensure that Trump's support breaks into the fifties.

At this rate by October 2016 he'll be promising concentration camps for Muslims and BLM activists.

I can't even ironically support Trump now. He's better than Cruz at least.

You sure it's not 100%?  Just what proposals has Trump made that are remotely realistic, Constitutional, and have some potential to actually be enacted into law? I can't think of one myself.

The key difference is that this sort of policy is a positive for the Republican base. They have become that racist.

But he's clearly not serious. After all, when Trump says something Atlas likes it's wisdom, but when he says something they don't like it's just a stunt.

Nothing Trump said in this campaign is serious, he is just an egomainac. The real problem lies in his supporters not Trump himself

I'm starting to think she shouldn't. Yes, he's running as an offensive, lowest-common-denominator fascist. But against a candidate who isn't willing to play by the usual rules, she's potentially very vulnerable.

Instead of harping on  Benghazi, Trump could point out that her time as Sec. State led to unprecedented disasters in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine.

Instead of whining about her emails, Trump could denounce the entire culture of privilege and entitlement that surrounds all senior US officials.

Instead of criticizing the Clinton Foundations donor handling, Trump could shine a spotlight on her position as a willing puppet for Wall Street and foreign interests.

Any other candidate will be unlikely to dare to go against the establishment so strongly (and would be vulnerable to accusations of hypocrisy if they did), but Trump just doesn't seem to care.

Let's say he does actually, by a miracle ($$$), win and become president. Do you think people will learn to not trust charismatic millionaires after his term?

Aside from that, to me Trump is sinking deeper into controversies, almost like if they actually benefit him by bringing him attention. To me he's still running rather as a joke.

Just because it's constitutional doesn't mean it's sensible.

Explain.

Has the US ever denied a citizen abroad the ability to return on the basis of their religion? I believe that could be unprecedented, unlike the race/religion based restrictions on immigration.

Constitutional does not necessarily mean sensible.  If you think that banning muslim immigration is sensible, then you'd probably think that letting muslims into this country isn't sensible, even though it is clearly constitutional.

Some predictions on how the GOP field will react:

Jeb: Bashes Trump and calls the idea outrageous. Falls to 2%.
Kasich: Bashes Trump and calls the idea outrageous. Makes ads about it. Falls to 0%.
Rubio: Proposes a compromise, offering to ban only half of Muslims. Media creams their pants at how he is such a reasonable compromise candidate.
Cruz: Says Muslims should all be banned, but thinks there's a nicer way of saying it.

Not to mention that it is explicitly allowed in Shi'ism to deny your faith (Taqiya?) if it serves the greater cause of Islam.

But nonetheless, here's my foolproof plan to identify teh Islams:

1) Lock them in a room with a sign saying "Mecca this way." If they pray five times a day, THEY'RE A ISLAM! (Four is acceptable, but suspicious)

2) Take them out for a full brunch. Offer them some bacon and a sip of your bloody mary. If they decline. THEYSA MUSLIM!

3) Give them a picture of the New York skyline in 2000 and one in 2002. See which one they frame and hang on the wall. If they pick 2002, MUSLIM ALERT!
*Bonus, if they pick neither, because New York is full of elitist liberals, give them a voter card!

4) If all others fail, this is a sure-fire strategy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8gndbh4ZMo

Mr. Trump, if you're reading this, you're welcome.

Actually TRUMP's comments and his campaign in general have been very useful.
He exposed the radicalism (bordering fascism) and hatred of the current Republican/conservative electorate like no other could.
