That's just absolutely insane.

Trump would destroy Bush in a 1v1, for starters...

Uh, Trump has been convinicingly leading Bush in all head to head polls. A Bush vs. Trump primary is literally the best way to ensure a Trump nomination.

They(he) should have done this weeks ago against Rubio instead of the botched debate attack. And David Frum figured out the smartest if counterintuitive way to do it: Bush's PAC should attack Rubio on immigration.

Face reality and exit the race, Jeb. Or else do something productive for the party and stop smelling your own farts. Also, stop listening to your consultants; they're just trying to milk money out of you.

This will only help Trump and the anti-establishment candidates, Is he hoping Trump wins the nod next year, so Hillary can beat him and Bush decides to re-run in 2020? And I thought the establishment candidates were going to rally around one another? I guess I'm wrong! Surprise

The tactic makes sense.  Donald Trump is not worth it, he can not win the Republican nomination.  Bush needs to focus his effort on Rubio, Cruz, etc.

This is what Jeb needs to do if he really wants to take down Rubio. Trump doesn't really seem interested in aggressively attacking Rubio, partially because he doesn't want rubio to go down at the expense of carson or cruz rising. Also, Cruz has made some light-hearted attacks against Trump (such as claiming that Trump won't be the nominee, etc), that Trump is not going to fight cruz's battle against Rubio for him. Cruz has a lot of glenn-beck type voters in the 'no trump' camp, rubio knows this, and that's why he's after cruz.

Cruz doesn't have the muscle to take on Rubio himself, and since Trump won't do it, interestingly, it could be Jeb that helps Cruz in destroying Rubio. That's Cruz's only hope.

All Jeb has to do is say 'friends with Chuck Schumer and the Gang of 8' repeatedly in his attack ads.

Jeb and Trump are actually perfect foils and straw-men for each other. Trump doesn't want to give legitimacy to any of the other candidates and neither does Jeb.

If Jeb has any amount of courage he would do this instead of blowing 75 million on promoting himself and attacking Trump like he did with the other 25 that went nowhere.

So they  spent $30M and couldnt get voters to like Jeb so they will spend another $70 to try to get voters to hate the other guys more? I guess its a strategy. Seems kind of desperate.

I can't wait to see the Jim Gilmore and George Pataki negative ads.

"Jim Gilmore. He hasn't won an election during the current century. He lost his last election by 30 points. And now he thinks he's electable nationwide? Republicans, don't vote Jim Gilmore for President."

"George Pataki. He may have won three times in New York, but he only faced a serious challenger once. He's pro-choice and seems content with the Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage. He raised Taxes as governor of New York. He's simply too liberal to be the republican nominee."

What a stupid strategy.

Trump can be defeated only in a 3-way race: Trump vs. Cruz vs. the establishment candidate.
If the establishment want to have some chance to deny Trump the nomination, they should force Paul, the "conservatives" (Carson, Huckabee, Santorum) and the "establishment candidates" (Bush, Pataki, Graham, Kasich, Fiorina) to drop out. Then there would be a 4-way race: Trump vs. Cruz vs. Rubio vs. Christie, with an establishment candidate dropping out before Iowa or after NH.

Rubio or Christie would get trounced in such a scenario. Leaving aside potential campaign demolishing scandals, Christie is far too liberal and Rubio far too weak. They'd be ground into mud by Trump and Cruz.

Oh, and if you want to just hand the White House to Clinton, have the GOP establishment start forcing candidates out of the race. The base will just love being told "your votes don't matter, we pick the candidates".

Here is a new ad from Right To Rise which attacks Cruz, Rubio and Trump. So apparently they are willing to go after Trump
