Even going back to his freshman college roommate, nevermind the 2000 Bush campaign...

Not surprising. You could probably say that about most politicians.

I don't really care about whether the people who represent me are nice or "care about people like me" as long as they do what I want them to do and vote the way I want them to vote.

Nonsense. This sorta makes sense for a legislator (but even then - legislators who don't foster relationships are effectively useless), but an executive figure needs to have good people skills. Most Presidents legacies stem from their personalities and foibles, at the end of the day. Somebody fundamental ly dislikeable will alienate the legislators (needed to cement a legacy), the civil service (bureaucracats need to be stroked in the right way to go along with your plans), the media, their own inner circle and - most critically - other countries. A bad relationship between two head of states can be pretty detrimental to relations on a wider scale.

In terms of picking a president (especially in primaries), personality is more important than policy.

Least surprising news of the day. Cruz has this asshole-ish vibe that makes him instantly unlikable. This is one of the reasons why I still don't think he has much of a chance at getting the nomination despite his recent spike in the polls and the weakness of his competition, because he is undoubtedly smarter that the other tier 1 candidates.

My boss was pretty much in charge of the FL recount. I've heard this first hand for months now.

I've grown to respect Cruz in that he's incredibly saavy and has a formidable intellect.  I doubt I'd want him as my best friend.  On the other hand, Cruz does project competence.  I'd rather have a Presidential candidate project competence than warmth or empathy if it came right down to it, and I think most people agree with that principle.

Cruz has zero executive experience.

Both Bush 41 and Bush 43 had tons of it.  How'd that work out?

He is starting to give me that Frank Underwood vibe. I think his intelligence does play a role in how he acts and treats others. It is great

I agree his intelligence factors into how he treats people and why he acts the way he does, but you and I probably disagree about in what way.

I doubt many of the people who worked with Nixon liked him either. He became a two term President. That's the President I'd probably most closely relate to Ted Cruz.

Both Bush 41 and Bush 43 had tons of it.  How'd that work out?

First of all, Bush 41 didn't have executive experience other than being CIA Director. It worked out that both men implemented policies that kept our country safe and expanded free trade to help create high-paying jobs.

Slick attorney Ted Cruz is unprincipled, sleazy, and a poor leader. Be it John Roberts, marijuana policy, Syrian refugees, the NSA, trade, or legal immigration, Ted Cruz has a history of changing his positions for politics. While Marco Rubio and Rand Paul have at least tried to pass meaningful legislation, Ted Cruz has only fought for symbolic legislation. It isn't so much that Ted Cruz lacks executive experience, though I do generally agree executive experience is good for a President to have, it's that he hasn't actually done anything. He talks a great game, but when it comes time to govern, he divides people. He's the Republican Barack Obama.

I agree somewhat.
But with Cruz, the problem of people hating him and unable to work with him, is HUGE.
If you don't have people-skills, it's hard to be a good leader running the country, a business, etc.
You cant run the nation, all alone .... you have a "team," and if your teammates just right-out despise you, the executive branch will not function.

Intelligence has no correlation with being a good leader. George Washington was not the most intelligent of the founders and was a far better leader than any of the rest.

The 2013 comments from his classmates at Princeton are amusing:
