I think I was 6 or so when I decided to calculate how fast Santa would have to travel to deliver presents to all the kids in the world. LOL, that was the end of that.

I forget exactly what age, but it's when I noticed that Santa's handwriting on the gift tags was the same as my mom's. Maybe 6.

Most kids already have a fear of people breaking into their house at night anyway,

Intriguing.  I guess I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years when I was a child, but I know that you're probably right.   I know for a fact that the schools are pushing this sort of paranoia right now.  I knew this generation was pretty fucked up, growing up in the shadow of such unsettling times, but I guess I wasn't sensitive enough to recognize that.

No, believing Santa is breaking into your home to rape children is a belief shared by no normal person.

I guess it's just evolution.  We're in a sort of paranoid time just now.  Growing pains of empire, I suppose.  My son's school actually has "lock down drills."  Have you ever heard of such a thing?!  In addition to all the normal stuff (fire drills, snow emergencies, tornado drills, etc.) they have to practice what to do if some mad man with rapid-fire weapon or a bomb comes into the school.

Around 8 years old; one of our gifts was too big and came without any wrapping. Found the box it came in later.

Surprisingly, a lot of the people I know believed in Santa for a loooong time. Then back in seventh grade, my Religion teacher went on a rant about how Santa isn't real.

The irony.

I figured it out over the years. Watching your parents on December 24is really interesting when they think you're asleep. In our family, nobody ever stops. Why would you question free gifts?

I always knew that he wasn't, like, an actual person. However, it's still kind of sad when your mother tells you the truth about both him and the Easter Bunny at the same time.

I never like really believed in Santa as a single being per say. I thought of him as more of an idea or a spirit of the holidays. I really knew he wasn't when I saw my parents putting gifts under the tree hehe..

it's kinda hard to say when you really really wanna believe Santa is real.  I knew he was fake probably around age 7.. but held onto hope until age 10 or 11.  What can I say.. life is almost always more disappointing than imagination.

In the Netherlands we celebrate Sinterklaas, who, together with his aide Zwarte Piet (trigger warning), brings gifts on December the 5th. It has nothing to do with Christmas (we didn't celebrate that; many Dutch people do, but they generally don't give presents then, since that is done on Sinterklaas already). Two weeks before December 5, children put their shoes near the fireplace and receive either candy or a small gift. The idea is that Sinterklaas rides on the roofs with his horse, Amerigo, and that Zwarte Piet climbs through the chimneys in order to deliver the gifts. I'm not exactly sure when I stopped believing this, probably when I was 8 or so.
