He won it comfortably, but now Democrats are getting clobbered there. What was the deal with its little Democrat phase?

I wouldn't call it a phase. The Democrats have high floor in the state and have been very successful at winning statewide this past ten years.

One thing to consider is that for as much as it was attracted to Obama, it was repelled by the Bush era GOP. The Republican decline in Colorado began in 2004 when it lost a Senate seat, a house seat and Bush's margin was cut significantly. In 2006 and 2008, the GOP got clobbered. The GOP would have done better in 2010 with two strong candidates for Governor and Senator instead of the weak candidates they ended up with, since they pretty much won everything else that year save for CO-07.

Obama was a good fit for the state at a time when the place was rejecting Republicans, so it was natural he would do well in 2008 where he exceeded his nationwide margin of victory. In 2012, it was closer to national average.

Dems are gonna heavily invest in CO, in 2016. There is a senate race with Bennett.

It was attracted to Obama because there are y2K in the college towns and just like in Iowa, the younger generation have been voting on legalizing marijuana and it is coming back every election.

Oddly, in 2004, the GOP could have split CO 9 electors and Dems wont have an electoral strategy by winning CO, Nv & Pa 272, it would have been difficult. But, it didnt pass because Dubya won it.

Demographic shift, with a growing Hispanic population buttressing an influx of liberal whites to turn it Democrat.  It's still a swing-state, though, and that's why they've not done so well in midterm elections.

Obama brought in almost 300,000 new voters for the Democrats compared to 2004.

Of those, only 30,000 were bush voters that in 2008 had switched their votes.

More likely these new voters Obama were able to turn out because their minorities or young. Are going to turn out less in 2016 no matter which candidates the dems bring out. What the democrats biggest fear in 2016 is not republicans flipping democrat votes since its unlikely but lack of interest from the new voters the dems got in 2008/2012 who won't be interested in voting in 2016 due to lack of interest.
