Healthcare in America is it a citizens right to have healthcare?

All citizens deserve the same health care whether you are rich or poor. If you are rich and want to go private then you pay to go private. But should`t the government pay for people that haven`t the chance or could never aford to have certain operations or afford certain drugs?

Private hospitals can look after the bill o`reillys of this world. but what about the people that spent their whole life in poverty? shouldnt we give them healthcare as they have been born an American citizen.

If you are aginast the government funding healthcare how do you intend to resolve the 40m people that dont have health insurance?

The number is actually 45 million and rising (equal to the population of 24 states).

I think we either need universal, single-payer healthcare or we need to find a way to greatly reduce health insurance/health care costs. Overhead/red tape greatly needs to be reduced to make it more affordable to the average American. Prescription drug prices also need to be negotiated and/or bought in bulk to lower prices.

??????????:
The way to lower healthcare costs is to get the government uninvolved in private business. This includes lowering the regulations put on by the FDA on drug companies. Waiting 5-6 years for a new drug is ridiculous.

It is not is right. But the government already spends $287 billion per year on health care for the poor through Medicaid and $284 billion on Medicare for the elderly. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/researchers/pubs/datacompendium/2003/03pg4.pdf
Those programs have contributed to the increase in cost of healthcare nationwide and are part of the reason why many working people can no longer afford healthcare insurance.

Lt. Gov. States makes a good point also.

A question for Scoonie: Do you think HMOs are well-run, fair and efficient?
