This time, I've assigned the Academic Performance Cult as the Republican candidate because the opposition is clearly liberal.

Let's see some maps.

I'd vote for the hippies, and the hippies would win this one.

Hippies win with 371 electoral votes.

Utah votes for the Academic Performance Cult, because it's so ultra far right-wing that they fear the hippies more, and the Academic Performance Cult promises to keep everyone too busy and tired from studying to try anything considered immoral.  Mississippi, Alabama, and South Carolina are battlegrounds because the warm climate makes it harder to study, but they vote for the Academic Performance Cult for the same reason Utah does.  The Academic Performance Cult easily carries Indiana, because it doesn't have the warm climate of Mississippi and Alabama.  The influence of Duke University and the fact that the state was right-wing enough to elect Jesse Helms allow the Academic Performance Cult to easily carry North Carolina.

The Rocky Mountain West (outside Utah) and the Great Plains vote for the hippies because of their clever ad with the line, "This stuff's made in New York City!"

Though California is supposed to be the capital of Hippies, it's a battleground state.  It's a tug-of-war between the hippies and the parents who want their students to go to Stanford, Caltech, or Berkeley.  The Governator endorses the hippies, who narrowly carry the state.

The Northeast and Mid Atlantic are interesting.  Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont (like the Rocky Mountain West) are too libertarian for the Academic Performance Cult.  The hippies lose Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and New York, because these states are the stronghold of the Academic Performance Cult, and the hippies are seen as scruffy little underachievers.  Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware are battlegrounds.  The hippies win in Delaware, because of the influence of the beach, which makes studying seem like more of a torture.  Virginia goes to the Academic Performance Cult because of Fairfax County and the influence of the SOL exams.  Maryland goes to the Academic Performance Cult because of the influence of Montgomery County and those wanting to go to Johns Hopkins University.  The University of Pennsylvania and Swarthmore allow the Academic Performance Cult to carry Pennsylvania.  It also helps that Rick Santorum campaigns for the Academic Performance Cult on the grounds that it leaves students no time for immoral behavior.

The Academic Performance Cult is almost entirely composed of Democrats, btw.
