Amendment Stage

The Government now has twenty-four hours to propose any amendments to the bill.

Since there seems no input whatsoever from our government, I guess we can progress to the third reading, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker,

I have returned from my period of leave. I trust there wasn't too much collapsing scenery in my absence. Wink

One distinctly gets the impression, Mr. Speaker, that a holiday recess in a week or so might be appropriate. Tongue

Yes. This is what is done in normal countries. Why copy the creepy obsessive behavior of our deranged neighbours to the north?

I think that's an excellent idea.  There is definitely pressure on everyone at this time of year, and it's silly to expect the game to continue unaffected by that.  I would note that the presidential election is due to be held this month as well.

I echo the calls for a recess.

I can join in support of a holiday recess, maybe December 20 until January 7, or a similar timespan; provided the speaker would finally give a vote on my bill Tongue

I would back this too, and yes, the speaker must give a vote on the Socialist Leader's bill. The wait has been ridiculous and for him to call an immediate session to elect the president.

According to law, all parliamentary business is suspended and we have less than a week to hold a special session to elect the president. This is an illegal action.

I have looked at the Constitution and cannot find this. It neither specifies that the presidential vote takes precedence over all other business nor does it state that we must do so immediately-- merely that the special session shall last no longer than a week.

I am willing to believe the speaker's interpretation here, and in order to finally get through with this:

Also, to the honourable member and all members, please introduce notions in the government or private member's bill threads.

Thank you.

Mr. Speaker,

Given the season I think it would behove this Parliament to recess until the New Year, to allow honourable members and their staff from all sides of the house to rest, recuperate and return refreshed and ready to get back to work for the people of South America.

I move that we recess until January 4th, 2016.
