I guess 1924 is the only one.

Sounds about right.  Although I probably would have been an ardent Nixon supporter at the time.

1924 was awful. Every election from 1940-1956 was ok.

1976 was the last election to have two okay major party choices...good is something else...1956 maybe, or if you want better than that, 1916, discounting Wilson's stroke and the consequences. If that doesn't count (since the stroke happened, after all) 1908. My final answer.

EDIT - seems I am indeed confused...I thought Roosevelt ran that year. Myeh. 1860, then. Lincoln vs Douglas.

Limiting your list to Republicans and Democrats (the case is muddied in re parties before the War between the States):

1956
1952
1924
1904
1892 (maybe)

No, I mean elections in which both of the major party candidates would be good presidents in your opinion.

The last one was 1924. I can't see how socialism or Catholicism can be a good choice.

You think every Dem candidate to run since 1924 was a socialist?

I think he was implying that Hoover was a socialist, and what's his name was Catholic.

There was no major party Catholic candidate in 1924.  That was Alfred Smith in 1928.

He said the last one with two good major party candidates was 1924.

Then comes 1928. Obviously Hoover didn't run in 1924 either. He was responding to PBrunsel, I believe.

I don't know why people here like Thomas Dewey either. Can you picture "the little man on the wedding cake" as President? Absolutely terrible.

Yawn. In what presidential election would you not have voted Republican? Note: the Republicans have to have existed at the time.

1960, 1968 (Three excellent choices), 1948 (Three excellent choices), a few at the turn of the century, those with Bryan vs. McKinley.
