No (unless you do something else sinful in the process).

Dressing up as Barney the dinosaur isn't practicing witchcraft or sorcery. Even dressing up as a witch or wizard isn't practicing sorcery, though I can at least understand that one. Simply declaring it to be doesn't make it so, nor does quoting random Bible verses that have nothing to do with the topic. Look I agree the drunken orgy going on outside right now needs to change but let's stick to condemning things that are actually wrong

Rather than the witchcraft, a stronger case can be made against the wasteful revelry associated with the holiday if one is determined to find the day to be sinful.

I hope you never have a child because I wouldn't be able to live if I had a parent like you.

I know some Christian denominations, including Jehovah Witnesses, don't celebrate it.

Was wondering if anyone here was of the same mind, and why.

Are you the guy who actually runs the site? I.E., the guy who is internet famous because you keep getting mocked by Fundies Say the Darndest Things?

I see their characterization of you as a crazy person was accurate.

Yes it is, but then so is almost all of the celebrations on the world, just godless activities.

The church I grew up in had a Halloween party at church every year when I was a kid.  It was fun, they put up a kid friendly haunted house, handed out lots of candy and we had a midget lady (that's what they called them at the time damn it!) that always dressed up and would hang out with the kids until we figured out who she was.

Then, sometime in the late 80s, they decided Halloween was "EVIL!".  So they stopped the Halloween party.  Instead they had a "Harvest Festival".  Kids dressed up, got candy.  No haunted house and kids were discouraged from wearing "evil" costumes like witches and devils and such.  So stupid.

Precisely. If your Halloween celebration involves sacrificing a goat to Satan, or drunken adultery or vandalism or whatever, you are sinning. If you are trick or treating it is fine.

Agreed.  I think Halloween opponents over-stress the holiday's origins when intent is really what counts.  I would say that dressing up as Satan/a witch or something is more problematic.

From a Jewish perspective it isn't sinful, even though it would probably be advisable to focus on celebrating Jewish holidays instead. There's plenty of them and it is good for parents to instill upon their children the sense that these are much more meaningful and important. But I could think of many things that are more problematic for Jews, such as celebrating Christmas.

Depends on what elements of Halloween you include.  Carving pumpkins, wearing a costume, and eating candy are not sinful, but participating in the more scary/grotesque/gruesome elements is (witches, vampires, ghosts, etc.).

This is true of a lot of holidays. Unhealthy eating is much more tolerated than smoking. Can you imagine if there were a holiday where smoking was the main tradition?

According to your profile you were born the same year as our first POTUS.
Did you ever meet him? Did you ever vote for him?
