And now a party political broadcast on behalf of the Social Liberals...



Just a few short months ago, South Americans from all stripes of life, from every background, political persuasion, and sense of self and identity came together to build a new future for our nations and our peoples. 

The general election in August showed a massive exercise in democracy and the success of the South American project.  In the aftermath of the election, the Social Liberals took immediate action to ensure that this country had a strong, stable first government to develop its democratic and constitutional institutions.

We entered the Government with strength and confidence and commanded a equal footing at the decision table.

It was Talleyrand, our Leader, who showed the strength of our party and ensured that the Government was a composed of an equal number of Tories and SocLibs.



It was SJoyce, our Deputy Leader, who developed the beginning of relations with Altasia.

It was the Social Liberals who developed sweeping environmental protections for our natural heritage.

It was the Social Liberals who instituted a progressive and effective cap and trade system to reduce our carbon emissions.

We stuck to our principles, and we held the Tories in line.  We have shown our capacity to lead.

But there is much more that can and should be done.  We must establish a universal, national health care system that allows for the protection of the sick and weak in society, and protects our middle class from exorbitant prices and charges.  We must have a radical reform of the education system that sees an emphasis places on social mobility and the trans-formative power of education for society.  We must institute a sweeping social security network to ensure the well-being and livelihood of our peoples.

And most fundamental of all, we must lead the charge of sustainable economic growth and progress.  By combating rampant inflation, price increases, and unsustainable levels of unemployment we can transform this continent.

All of this can and will be done if the Social Liberals are returned to form government.  Our party has demonstrated our capacity and ability to lead, and we have a strong, comprehensive program for the future of South America.

On November 5th, look at your choices on the ballot paper: unbridled conservatism or unbridled socialism.  Neither philosophies hold a plan for the future.  Instead, turn to the radical center; turn to a party with the will to fight and a plan that can work.

Vote for the Social Liberals.

A late president of our northern neighbor once said something that I think sums up this election very well:

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out
how the strong man stumbles or how the doer of deeds could have
done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in
the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who
strives valiantly; who errs, and who comes up short again and again...
who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement,
and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.

As members of the first Government of our infant Republic, the Social Liberals have been constantly "in the arena." The Socialists, who have had the luxury of criticizing every failure of the government without being burdened with the responsibility of correcting them, have not. Under the leadership of Deputy PM Talleyrand and Speaker Barnes, we have won real victories for the people of South America, and if - as Mr. Roosevelt says - we have come up short of our highest ideals, we at least have worked to lead South America in the right direction. Anyone can criticize the status quo and claim that, if given power, he would do things better; it is a different proposition entirely to actually lead, with only your principles and the will of the people for guidance.

Here is our manifesto from the last campaign, which remains key to our beliefs and goals. We have come a long way in accomplishing way in making progress on many of these fronts, including the environment and our diplomatic relations, but we hope to chip away at as many of the issues facing our nation as possible if we are returned to government next month.

Message from the Leader



Friends and allies,

Our nation sits at a crossroads. We have come far in the last few months, having passed groundbreaking environmental legislation, and set up an excellent framework for our government for what one hopes will be many years to come. We have ensured fair labor relations that respect both workers and consumers, and re-established our continent as a force on the world stage.

Yet there is a lot of work to be done. We still need to work with our indigenous and minority communities to ensure that their needs are met. We need to bring to justice the perpetrators of atrocities against the Southern American people over the decades. And of course, we must create a strong, but flexible social safety net for the weakest in our society, guaranteeing them a dignified quality of life.

We are the only party that provides a truly pragmatic, progressive pathway for South Americans, and are able to work with both the Socialists and Conservatives, as we have done over the last two months. I believe that we have a great team this campaign, including myself, Speaker Barnes, Foreign Minister SJoyce, Deputy Chancellor Vega, and our distinguished member BaconBacon96, in addition to several other great individuals. We have waged the only fully positive campaign in this election because the people of South America deserve more than that.

As we head into tonight's election, I beseech all undecided voters for their support. We will need it, and if we receive it, we won't let you down.

Statement on the election results

Now that the election results have been declared, it is clear that the Prime Minister and the Conservatives have won a very handsome victory.  On behalf of our leader, Talleyrand, and the Social Liberals, I would like to congratulate him and his party.

The election results reconfirmed the status of the Social Liberals as the leading alternative to the Conservatives in this country as we received both the second largest number of votes and seats -- tying with the Socialists.

In response to this confidence placed in us, we have determined to not renew our coalition agreement with the Conservatives.  the Prime Minister has now been tasked by the President to form a minority government, and the Social Liberals will be moving to the opposition benches.

Our parliamentary caucus will offer a bold and dynamic alternative to the Tories.  We will not use our position to score political points and cheap shots; rather, we will ensure that meaningful and progressive legislation is passed by the Parliament for the betterment of all of South Americans.

I would like to again thank every one of our members, candidates, and supporters.  We defied every poll and pundit and scored a fantastic result to continue fighting for you, your rights, and your future.

We will not let you down.
