The 10/40 Window

Apparently, 96% of the world's "unsaved" population lives between the 10th and 40th parallel*. It is home to the world's strongest and most deceptive religious traditions, which hold billions captive in fatalistic and hopeless belief systems. Only 12-15% of Christian missionaries currently work in it.

If this is the attitude Christian missionaries bring with them, then they deserve the consequences.

*Notice that the Vatican lies just 1.5 degrees north of this deadly quadrant.

Yeah, I don't think even the most tolerant western countries will accept Muslim extremists coming to incite jihad, so I'm not very sympathetic when Christian missionaries with these attitudes get into trouble.

It also strangely omits Italy and Greece, the heartlands of Christianity. It seems the missionaries include them (and Spain) in the "saved" population.

In my original post, I mentioned that the latitudes of this perilous parallelogram were curiously omitted, but I now notice that the boundaries of the 10/40 Window mirror the boundaries of the Asiatic Barred Zone



The ABZ doesn't extend over mainland China and Japan since the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Gentleman's Agreement made the 1917 law redundant, and it doesn't extend over North Africa since those people had no chance of emigrating anyhow.

The 10/40 Window is basically a modern manifestation of Yellow Peril.

A very large portion of the world population lives within this window, its not surprising that a large fraction of the non-christian population lives within it as well.  Combine that with people's need to see patterns in everything, and its not surprising that we see things like this 10/40 window. 

Just because you can draw some lines and make most people of a certain group fit within it, doesn't make it meaningful.
