Notice that B.Boxer is the most hated senator (after T.Kennedy) by the extreme conservatives.

Big deal.  Boxer got 6.5 million votes, which equates to a 58% win.  In the same election, Mike Crapo of Idaho got a paltry 500,000 votes.  His percentage? 99%.

I did not intend to make any political point. I brought it just for fun and because B.Boxer drives the Conservatives crazy.

Good for you Shira.  And it is also a good way to point out what is wrong with the Senate.

Well, to be fair, McWhatever (his opponent) screwed up his paperwork or something and ended up as a write-in. Due to Idaho's rather confusing write-in system (you have to put the blank ballot in the envelope and write on the envelope itself somewhere), McWhatever failed to get any votes in several counties. He would have probably received at least 20% - there may not be many of them, but many of Idaho's Democrats are very, very loyal to the party.

Boxer is an interesting statistic (she placed third nationally for vote received, behind Bush and Kerry) but what does it mean? She got 58% of the vote in the most populous state. I don't see the news here.

Another reason why this statistic about Boxer is stupid: 300,000 more Californians voted for Kerry for President.  In senatorial elections that run concurrently with presidential elections, incumbent senators (whose party tends to win the state's EVs) usually get way more than the presidential candidate.

But the fact remains: No other senator got more than 6,453,157 votes during the whole history of the US Senate

Until 2006, then it'll be Feinstein unless she announces a shock retirement and Schwarzenegger is elected to the senate where he authors a bill that alows people born in Austria to become president and is then elected to the presidency. Then he'll not only have the most votes cast for senate, but the most votes of any senator cast for any office!

What senator got the largest percentage of the vote? Probably some stupid unopposed candidate. Well, which one that had an actual opponent?

Oh, as long as we're doing brain dead trivia:

Question: Who is the president who received more votes than any other presidential candidate in the history of the United States?

Answer: George W. Bush got 62,040,610 votes, the largest total in American history.

Your number is wrong, it's 6,947,021. Smiley  And it's the most votes that any politician has ever gotten in a non national race, not just Senator.
