Clinton wins the nomination against Obama, much to the disappointment of the progressive wing of the Democrats. McCain chooses Condoleezza Rice as his running mate, preventing the gaffe-prone disaster that was Sarah Palin from sinking the McCain campaign. McCain uses his running mate as proof that GOP, the party of Lincoln, is not afraid of running African-Americans on its ballot, referencing a few unfortunate remarks by a few of Clinton's most devout supporters during the contentious primary. This is a naked attempt by McCain to gain support from African-Americans. Obama however has endorsed Clinton wholeheartedly in an effort to disassociate her from the remarks of a few overzealous supporters.

Rice has the weakness of being directly linked to the GWB administration, giving a weapon to the Clinton/Bayh campaign. However she brings experience to the table, better issue familiarity (and sanity) than Palin, and brings minority support to the GOP, something they sorely need.

Does McCain have a chance in this alternative election or will Clinton prevail in an atmosphere of Bush resentment?

322 - 216

I love how McCain's running mate was blatantly trying to get the AA vote. What, was Hillary blatantly nominated to rally women?

I based that idea on the theory that Sarah Palin was nominated to rally women behind the GOP vote, I specifically remember McCain trying to reach out to female voters after Hillary Clinton lost the democratic nomination in real life.
