In a weird way, Rand Paul is defending his strategy of attacking Trump by pointing out how his numbers were in the crapper even before the attacks...

For the record Paul's national poll numbers were 8.2% the day Trump announced, 4.5% the day of the Fox debate and 4.3% now. So I guess that means the attack Trump strategy is working?

"I was doing terrible all on my own, it isn't Trump's fault!"

Mercy kill this campaign, please, Rand. Leave with some dignity.

I was telling everyone Paul had no chance back when he was winning the prediction poll here.

That's... actually worse. Paul thought the best response to sinking poll numbers wasn't to hammer on the points that made him popular in the first place but to attack a candidate that his own target audience likes and to make himself look like another establishment stooge.

In Paul's defense his path to victory in the Republican primary, long odds as it has always been, necessitated him getting the anti-everything vote. I mean, how can a libertarian possibly win without the votes of people who are most angry with the government?

Trump sunk Rand with one tweet. Rand isn't half the man his father was.

Perfect analogy, really. He did seem like a spoiled kid, trying to grasp at the coattails of his daddy and struggling with the never-ending "am I a conservative or libertarian" crisis. Sadly, his cult of personality will continue to grown among the tin-foil people.

I doubt he'll be paying the Kentucky GOP any money. Maybe he'll stay in for some early states, but won't ever put his name on the Kentucky Presidential ballot, and will run for re-election instead.

The problem is that Rand Paul has a much higher I.Q. than Donald Trump and yet, Trump is ahead in the polls. But, Paul is right, his numbers were in trouble before the debate. That being said, it is more likely that Paul is the nominee than Trump.

Rand Paul is fighting the good fight for free markets and fiscal responsibility. In fact, he's the candidate in this race who has called for the GOP to oppose corporate welfare, something your pathetic candidate has benefited from.

Rand Paul is a corrupt loser. He's a loser. And he's corrupt. The people of Kentucky deserve better than a IDIOT and a DUMBEY like Rand Paul.

Rand Paul/Jeb Bush are losers who are LOSING badly in the polls to the real hero DONALD TRUMP. Jeb Bush has 7%, Donald Truimp has over 30%. Call me when your boy Jeb actually gets within striking distance of the great Trump. Lightweight little boy.

Rand's poll numbers suck because his campaign is a total abortion which, in his defence, has absolutely nothing to do with Donald Trump. There's no telling what Rand is trying to accomplish at this point, he should drop out and cease embarrassing himself.

If Trump wasn't running Rand would probably be on top or near the top 3 close to Jeb.

As bad as his fundraising has been (relatively), people give a lot less to Senate campaigns. Gotta keep the faucet flowing.

Yes. But its cringeworthy at this point that he has to admit his down trending numbers are due to his own campaign.

Interesting that a Christie supporter empty quoted this.

I thought it was funny, because Rand was painting himself to be the future of the GOP and to be the anti-Washington savior...and fell flat on his face.

They give even less to ophthalmologists, which is going to be the end result for Rand if he doesn't drop out and focus on his Senate seat.

Let's look at the facts here in terms of who is actually "winning" overall:

Jeb Bush:
- Started a real estate company that became the largest in South Florida
- Served as Florida's Secretary of Commerce
- Formed a charter school
- Became the first Republican Governor of Florida to be re-elected in history
- As Governor, he fought for tax cuts, reducing the size of government, tort reform, workers compensation reform, medicaid reform, school choice, the second amendment, the pro-life position, and preserving the Everglades and won
- Married to the same woman for 41 years

Rand Paul:
- Served as Chairman of the Young Conservatives of Texas
- Board certified American Board of Ophthalmology Member
- Elected to the U.S. Senate with 55% of the vote
- Supported the "cut, cap, and balance act" in the U.S. Senate
- Has been a leading voice to Audit the Federal Reserve and end corporate welfare
- Married to the same woman for 24 years

Donald Trump:
- Inherited millions from his father
- Went into bankruptcy 4 times
- Has accepted millions in corporate welfare
- Drove a sports league into the ground
- Drove his airline company into the ground
- Has advocated for gun control, universal health care, abortion, public funding of Planned Parenthood, surrender in Iraq, economic stimulus, tariffs, and higher taxes
- Divorced 3 times

I think the cult of personality is waning.
