Hello South Americans! This thread will be dedicated to out-of-parliament discussion of the Government's financial and monetary policies and proposals. We will also use this thread to announce new initiatives of the Treasury. We welcome all public discussion of these proposals.

The Treasury is currently focused on the distressing monetary situation in certain parts of our country and is considering proposals to address this trouble.

I promised an agenda days ago but all my time has been spent with hurricane prep, law school and dealing with a broken AC during a Florida summer. Sorry about that.

In accordance with the belief of this government that national unity is paramount, the Treasury's actions this parliament will be to move towards a gradual financial integration of the South American states.

To begin, we intend to synchronize and normalize inflation and interest rates between South American states. On this, the treasury is primarily concerned with stopping the inflation crises in Argentina and Venezuela.

Next, we intend to pass though Parliament an act creating a Bank of South America. This bank would, in the same manner as the European Central Bank, would coordinate and issue orders to currently existing central banks.

We also intend to create a South American currency. Upon being presented with the choices of adopting a current currency or adopting a new one, this government has concluded that a new currency would further our goals of integration and unity. At the time, our intention is for this to be primarily used by the government and to slowly adopt it throughout the continent, perhaps starting with a loose peg of national currencies.

Finally, in coordination with the rest of the cabinet, we will work on harmonizing and eradicating tariffs and other economic impediments through South America. The creation of a common market as soon as is feasible is our goal here.

The treasury has just put before the House an act to create a common market in South America. In the forging of a new nation from many diverse parts, allowing the freedom to trade across borders is one of the most vital. A common market allows new ties to be forged between new countrymen, new markets for growing businesses, and more options for consumers. We firmly believe that all trade is good trade and this act will play a major part in creating new trade across all South America.

If this act is passed, the treasury intends to schedule the integration of industries in a measured and deliberate fashion over a period of twelve years. We have also included an exemption for the energy sector. At this time the Government believes that debate on energy liberalization, being a complex issue set deeply in the popular imagination, deserves to be handled separately. We have no desire to cause needless provocations by dealing with an issue that has even recently caused public conflict in a less thorough manner than it deserves.

We ask Parliament to consider and with all due haste pass this act. Help the Government forge the brotherhood and unity of the South American people.
