ˇWelcome to South America!

South America is a government/elections game simulating the politics of a unitary parliamentary state. Players take part in shaping the policies and nature of South America by participating in party events, standing in elections, and serving as members of the national government. The government of South America consists of a unicameral Parliament elected at regular intervals, a President chosen by the Parliament, and an appointed Prime Minister.

History
The South American Parliament was established in July of 2015. According to the body's official history,

TNF was elected Speaker of the Provisional Parliament on July 23, 2015; the Provisional Parliament accordingly installed Hashemite as Interim President on August 8. Following the first national elections on August 14, in which the Conservative Party won a large plurality in the new Parliament, Potus2036 was chosen to be the first Prime Minister of South America.

Following an abrupt drop in activity following the second parliamentary elections, South America unofficially dissolved in the early weeks of 2016.

Parties
Numerous parties exist in South America, representing a wide array of ideologies. Many parties have an official platform or manifesto, elect a party leadership, and run candidates in national elections. Players can also choose to participate in the game without joining a party.

Registration
Joining the game is simple: just post your username in the official Registration Thread, located here.

List of Political Parties

CONSERVATIVE PARTY

"The Conservative Party is founded on the principles of liberty, community, and social responsibility. We believe that all persons possess certain rights and responsibilities, and that it is the state's foremost function to ensure that these rights and responsibilities are met."

SOCIALIST PARTY

"The platform of the Socialist Party of South America is as follows:
1. To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service.
2. To foster a society in which the divisions imposed by class, race, gender and orientation become as nothing, and in which the physical environment is accorded the respect and protection to which it is due."

THE SOCIAL LIBERALS

"The Social Liberals are a broad-tent internationalist political party devoted to the pursuit of individual liberties and human rights. We share a strong commitment to the open market, but understand that the state has an obligation to uplift those weakest in it as it addresses issues such as health care and poverty. We are deeply committed to environmental protection, a better standard of education, and support for a tolerant, open society."

WORKERS' PARTY

"The Workers Party is a party dedicated to the emancipation of the proletariat from the shackles placed upon it by the employing class, otherwise known as the bourgeoisie. To that end, the Workers Party seeks to educate and agitate the working masses in preparation for the eventual overthrow of the capitalist system and the introduction of a socialist system, in which the exploitation of man by man shall be tossed into the ashbin of history and true freedom, heretofore unknown to the generations of mankind that have inhabited the earth since the dawn of class society, attained."

MINOR PARTIES
Free Alliance
"The Free Alliance/Alianza Libre is a party dedicated to greater autonomy for the former republics of South America because reasons."

Pirate Party
"We the Pirate Party voters of this continent [are] arrayed against the major corporate and government interests which violate our rights as human beings."

Whig Party
"We support a strong government which has the power to protect [South] American citizens."
