yeah I know.  I just thought maybe I shared Hitchabrut's sense of humor.  you know, Indiana is of course the answer to his question, but Vermont is a good jeu-des-mots.  er, um, wortspeil (Spiel von Wörtern)(?)

Massachusetts D50+ 1928-48 (6 elections)
Rhode Island D50+ 1928-48 (6 elections)
Virginia D60+ 1904-24 (6 elections)
North Carolina D50+ 1896-1924 (8 elections)
South Carolina D90+ 1900-40 (11 elections)
Tennessee D50+ 1872-1916 (12 elections). I've only checked back to series ending 1904 and later...but I'd wager a brownie point or two that this record holds farther back as well.
