IN has given its electoral votes to the GOP candidate for president for the longest, if that's what you mean.  Vermont, of course, means "green mountain" and has always meant Green Mountain, if that's what you mean.

yeah I know.  I just thought maybe I shared Hitchabrut's sense of humor.  you know, Indiana is of course the answer to his question, but Vermont is a good jeu-des-mots.  er, um, wortspeil (Spiel von Wörtern)(?)

you know, "same shade of green since 1719..."

ah, screw it.

Oh, okay. I got the Vermont=Green since it became a state thing...I just didn't get it that you got the original question... Smiley

Here are the current streaks:
11 (since 1964): DC (D)
10 (since 1968):  VA, IN, OK, KS, NE, SD, ND, WY, ID, UT, AK (R)
8 (since 1976): MN (D)
7 (since 1980): TX, MS, AL, NC, SC (R)
5 (since 1988): WA, OR, HI, WI, NY, MA, RI (D)
4 (sicne 1992): CA, CT, DE, IL, ME, MD, MI, NJ, PA, VT (D)
3 (since 1996): CO, GA, MT (R)
2 (since 2000): AZ, AR, FL, KY, LA, MO, NV, OH, TN, WV (R)
1 (since 2004): IA, NM (R) NH (D)

Historically, I believe VT holds the record for the longest streak (something like 27 straight), but IIRC Georgia is not far behind

I meant the same shade on the Atlas maps. Not just the same color. For example, I believe Virginia was >40% in 1976, and >50% in 1980. Not the same shade.

Recently....

WI has been D +40 for 1992 onwards. (4 Elections)
DC has been D +80 for 1984 onwards. (6 Elections)

In History:
NM was R +50 for 1976-1988 (4 Elections)
MT was R +50 for 1968-1980 (4 Elections)
NC was D +50 for 1948-1964 (5 Elections)
GA wad D +60 for 1948-1960 (4 Elections)

And I dont really care for going beyond before that.

Massachusetts D50+ 1928-48 (6 elections)
Rhode Island D50+ 1928-48 (6 elections)
Virginia D60+ 1904-24 (6 elections)
North Carolina D50+ 1896-1924 (8 elections)
South Carolina D90+ 1900-40 (11 elections)
Tennessee D50+ 1872-1916 (12 elections). I've only checked back to series ending 1904 and later...but I'd wager a brownie point or two that this record holds farther back as well.
