Fear and Loathing in 72'

Gallup: President Nixon's Approval Rating:

Approve: 49%
Disapprove: 39%
Undecided: 12%

Gallup: 1972 Presidential Election:

Richard Nixon: 41%
Generic Democrat: 40%
George Wallace: 12%
John Schmitz: 1%
Undecided: 6%

President Nixon enters 1972 on a positive approval rating, yet one that could easily go down as the China overtures seem mixed, the Vietnam negotiations take a turn for the worse and the economy remains unstable. Indeed, many challengers have appeared for the President both in primaries and the general election, and the potential candidacies of George Wallace and John Schmitz appear as more damaging for Nixon than the Democrats. On the bright side for the GOP, they do hold a lead in the Electoral College. But will Nixon lead his party in November? And who will the Democrats choose to take on the incumbent?

Turn One: Announcement Season:
January 2nd to January 8th, 1972

1.- General View: As January 1972 begins, it's time for the candidates to announce their candidacies and start their tour of the nation. There little less than three weeks until the low profile Arizona and Iowa Caucuses, and the main early events, the New Hampshire and Florida Primaries, await at the beginning of March. Have fun!

2.- Note on Delegates: For gameplay purposes, both parties will be using a proportional system for delegates, with a 15% threshold. The only exception to this rule is the decisive California Primary, which as in OTL will be Winner Takes All.

3.- Primary Ballot Deadlines: Candidates have until the end of the next turn (January 15th) to file in for the Florida and New Hampshire Primaries. Take notice of the deadlines and plan carefully!

4.- Extra: Primary Polling and random events start next turn. This turn is planned to end in 48 hours, with a 24 hour extension if necessary.

January 2, 1971, Omni Coliseum, Atlanta, Georgia

After the debacle of almost three years prior, we need a new voice representing our party. We need leadership that will present new ideas, and be willing to challenge conventional thinking in all areas. We need outsiders, not insiders, and we feel we can prove people without Governmental experience can be just as effective as those who have spent years in Washington or here in Atlanta! That is why I am running for President, because our party deserves better than chaos on the streets, our Country deserves President who doesn't want "peace with honor", and our citizens deserve to know that their vote counts just as much as anyone else's.

Mayor John Lindsay in Manchester, New Hampshire

"President Nixon invests our futures not in the ingenuity of fellow Americans, not in the strength of our freedom, not in the education of our children, but in manpower in the Vietnam war, in Washington doublethink, and in talk over action. The President has done little to fight what ails Americans, and more to fight his enemies in the oval office and play paranoid games. We can't take four more years of broken promises.

In the White House, we need someone who will fight for tax justice over tax subisides for the wealthiest Americans, someone who will bring hope to America's crime stricken cities, someone who will put money for jobs, education, and healthcare for regular Americans, and someone who will put a final end to Vietnam once and for all. I believe I am that candidate.

President Nixon put an end to the fraud of Progressive Republicanism. The progressive vision does not belong in the Republican Party. It belongs in the Democratic Party. This is a new era of American politics, and we no longer need the leaders of yesteryear, but the leaders of today. I hope I can bring forward a vision that will define the next American century, and renew hope for the future. That's why I am announcing my candidacy for President of the United States of America.

SCHMITZ ANNOUNCES RUN FOR PRESIDENT!!

Today, Congressman John G. Schmitz of California announced his run for president. His spoke to a crowd announcing his candidacy here's his speech.

"Today is a great day to be an American!! I'm here in Bakersfield California, to announce that I'm running for President as an Independent Candidate. Americans are sick and tired of our weak foreign and domestic policy of the communist Richard Nixon who's doing nothing about the communists who are foreign and domestic, he's established new federal agencies and destroyed our way of life. Richard Nixon, The Democrats, Republicans and George Wallace are all blatantly communist and want to destroy the American way of life, they've destroyed our heritage by allowing blacks to be in our schools, allowing evolution and other ungodly things being talked in our public schools and have let the communists win on every front. Americans, like me are sick and tired of this communist craziness that these failed individuals have let happen, they killed our boys and let the communists win, at least if our boys die for freedom for all men let us win the war. That's why if President I will declare war against every communist nation, party religion and army and they will die, Americans want change and with your help this change back to our Constitutional Republic will happen. Thank You all for coming out, may God Bless you and the United States of America."

Nixon announces 1972 campaign!

“Good evening; after much consideration, I am announcing my candidacy for a second term as your President. Over the last four years, America has turned back the tide. My administration’s dynamic policies have left America and the world in a safer and more stable environment than what we found four years ago. We in the administration are proud of our record, but we are not yet complete with the tasks we laid forth four years ago. The great silent majority screamed in our favor four years ago; tonight, they talk quietly content.

I, however, while proud of my actions as President, am not content. I promised the American people four years ago that we would have peace with honor in Vietnam. We have yet to reach that goal, and I will not allow another President of radical orientation to undo all that has been done. We have, with praise from both sides of the political spectrum, established diplomatic relations with China after decades of darkness, and have implemented some of the widest and broadest environmental protection programs in American history.

Having been to nearly one hundred nations in my lifetime-perhaps the most widely traveled President in American history-I have visited Communist nations, nations that exist half socialist and half free, nations torn by war and disorder, nations ravaged by poverty and disease, and nations plagued by economic stagnation and moral decline.

The United States is not one of those nations.

Some of my opponents in the Democratic Party want to turn back the clock; their records show for it. New York City, Las Angeles, Chicago, and other major American cities still are outposts of poverty in our own nation. And yet, the mayors of some of these cities are more interested in working for themselves than they are for their constituents. I am not that kind of politician. I am the President for all of America, and I’ll stand for those whose voices are willfully ignored or silenced by their local authorities and representatives. One of my declared challengers even willfully entered classified and highly sensitive information into the congressional record. Another has willingly switched his political affiliation in order to further his own ambitions after leaving behind a record of blight and decay.

I understand that opposition to my candidacy does not come from the left alone; from the right, the forces of bigotry have united in their opposition to my efforts to desegregate schools. They have rallied against peace with honor in favor of perpetual war, their regard for human life being nonexistent. They have rallied around dangerously uninformed conspiracy theories about our efforts to open up the People’s Republic of China to the light of democracy and capitalism. Yet, they have disunited in order to seek the presidency on several fringe party ballot lines, and their efforts to either derail my administration or the fragile sense of unity that we have strived to foster after a decade of violence at home and abroad will be fruitless. Their efforts will fail, as the American people have the good sense to reject radicalism in all of its forms.

My fellow Americans, let us take a look at the policies of yesterday and today. Let us take a fair look at my record, and have an open, honest discussion about what has been done, what will be done, and what has not been done. I know the answer I will have when this conversation concludes. And I am sure you will have the same as well. So tonight, I leave you with this thought: are we better off than we were four years ago?

Thank You, God Bless America, and may God Bless you.”

Carter for President-Turn One

The Carter Campaign will file in the Florida and New Hampshire Primaries (and is thankful that caucuses don't have filing fees).

January 2, 1972

Announcement at Omni Coliseum, Atlanta, Georgia

Speech before the University of Florida College of Education, Classes of 1972-1974 and staff, at Norman Hall, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida.

One of the myriad of reasons we have such a crushing poverty rate is that so few in this country have access to a quality education...or in some places an education of any kind, which is why under a Carter Administration, one of our first priorities will be to establish a Federal Department of Education. with the goals of ensuring everyone goes to a school of some sort, and being a storehouse for state curriculums, so that if an idea here in Florida is catching on, someone in Oregon can go to the Federal Department instead of jumping through bureaucratic hoops in Tallahassee to get it, and see if it works for them.

Muskie Announces Bid in Portland Maine

"Four years ago we were promised 'Law and Order', and four students were shot dead, four years ago we were promised an end to the war in Vietnam, and now thousands of brave Americans lie dead. Therefore, I am today announcing my candidacy for the President of the United States.

America does not need four more years of Nixon, four more years of the status quo. As your President, I will advocate for peace in Vietnam and the defense of the Great Society. I will restore respect to the United States Government abroad and at home.

I will bring Americans together, north and south, black and white, only then can we achieve real progress. Thank you"

Reporter: Mr. President, Congressman John Schmitz has accused you of being a communist in a...interesting campaign appearance in Mississippi. What do you think of his campaign?

Nixon: Well, I for one am glad he is running as an independent. He is a national embarrassment as it is, and even more so to the Republican Party. A candidate who advocates the literal re institution of segregation, much less slavery, which Mr. Schmitz appears to be campaigning on-though frankly, his statements are too incoherent for me to fully grasp- is not in the mainstream of any decent American. Mr. Schmitz is a particularly vile candidate, and I look forward to not having to engage him and his irrelevant campaign any more than I just did. Next question-yes, Helen.

Helen Thomas: Mr. President......

Statement from the White House:
President Nixon has relieved General John K. Singlaub from duty for violating Defense Department Directive 1344.10, which prohibits active duty military personnel from endorsing a candidate, cause, or party.

President Nixon will also soon travel to New Hampshire tomorrow to file for the New Hampshire Republican Primary ballot in person.

Statement on Nixons Remarks

"I am completely disgusted with Dicks Remarks, they were uncalled for were a very legitimate candidacy and we want debate on the issues, he is a communist beacuse if he wasn't he would bomb every communist nation, but no, know we must fight them with rainbows and unicorns. God Help Us. And I am not a embarrassment to the party as much as you are, I will make sure Articles of Impeachment are given to you when I get back to Congress, next week. Dick is an embarrassment to our great nation and should Apolgize immediately, those comments were uncalled for."

The Congressman also made a remark on General Singlaubs endorsement of his candidacy "God, this man doesn't like the people threatening his power, General Singlaub has the right to support his candidate of his choosing and we will be bringing this to court."

Morgens For President

Ladies and gentlemen,

I am honored by your presence today. Anne and I thank you for joining us in this new chapter of our lives. Going forward, we will appreciate every ounce of love and support you can send our way. History suggests that we'll be needing it.

Many of you may harbor some confusion about why we're going forward with this. Many of you may think that because I'm not politician, I shouldn't involve myself in these affairs. I hardly disagree.

I am running for President of the United States, now let me tell you why.

During my time at Procter and Gamble, I've had the pleasure of being part of a team that has turned it into one of the largest and most successful companies in America. We've quadrupled the size of the company and I'm glad my leadership was a part of that.

I've spent many years of my life dedicated to the success of Procter and Gamble. We've hired new workers, opened new plans, and helped build this country for many years.

That's the honor and value of serving in business. The business community makes so many lives better by simply existing. The private sector is crucial to the success of every part of our society.

I've had the distinct honor of serving several charitable organizations in my life. Through my work with the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, I can tell you that rarely is progress made without private backing. As a board member for the Museum of Natural History, I can tell you the many millions of families and schools that visit the museum would not enjoy that opportunity if not for the private sector. The Red Cross depends on the support of millions of businesses, workers, and families across the country to bring help to those in need. Our society needs entrepreneurship and the private sector to move forward.

So what does this have to do with my running for President?

I believe that the private sector is hurting and because of that our society is hurting. Millions of American families are hurting.

Many people in Washington will look at this announcement, smirk, and drop the newspaper. That is what is wrong with Washington.

When prices go up and wages don't, Washington shrugs. When people are forced to depend on government for their living, Washington looks away. When the worker struggles and the small business closes, Washington is nowhere to be found. When we start a half-a-billion dollar deficit, Washington retreats.

Why is this? Because Washington is doing just find. Your pain isn't pain to them. The taxes out of your paycheck are paychecks into their pockets.

I believe that with an outsider in charge we can get this country moving in the right direction. We can fix Washington. We can make life better for every American.

That is why I'm running for President. Thank you.

Sam Yorty Announces Presidential Campaign; Pledges to "Restore Responsibility"

Good morning. After months of consultation and input from my family, friends, and fellow citizens, I have filed paperwork to run for President of the United States this year.

Look everywhere around you, and what do you see happening in this country? You see despair. You see dissolution. You see defeat. These trends have been with us for the better part of the past decade, and what it takes is a strong leader to bring this country out of its sorry state and turn it around. Now, you'll see plenty of candidates volunteer their names to do the job of president by claiming your precious vote. Ask yourself, though: Are they the real deal? Friends, I'm the real deal.

One's record is a good barometer for who would be an effective president, and even my fiercest opponents concede that I've done a lot as Mayor of Los Angeles. Under my leadership, we have expanded the freeway system to now become one of the largest and most famous in the world, making this city a central hub of commerce in the United States. Los Angeles isn't just booming in commerce, though, as our newly constructed music centers and zoos show that we have a vibrant culture even in this era of gloominess. I've led a cleaner and more prosperous city for a decade, and now I want to do the same for the rest of the nation.

The current leadership has failed the American people, to put it simply. President Nixon has given in to the demands of the pacifist nutjobs by this strategy of "Vietnamization," which is really just pulling out of Vietnam without declaring any kind of victory. That is a slap to the face to all of our troops if I ever saw one. Communism is a threat to the entire globe and one that we must combat wherever it rears its ugly head. Victory in Vietnam is achievable if we double down and set clear mission objectives, which is what I intend to do as president. This country has had a muddy foreign policy in recent times that has alienated our allies and shredded our credibility. Pursuing a foreign policy of peace through strength instead would lead to longtime stability and erase confusions about what our goals are when we exert our influence abroad.

Beyond our international failures, domestic policy under Nixon has been a catastrophe. The man who promised to close the book on the chaos of the Sixties has presided under rising unemployment, rapid inflation, and a booming national debt all while our free enterprise system has been strained in the process. This sort of fiscal irresponsibility will lead us to even darker times if nothing is done to correct it. Too many of these candidates are promoting the same reckless policies, but I am serious when I want to look to the future and promote a better path.

As Democrats will be voting in the primaries over these next few months, I ask each and every one of the voters to take a look at who I am and what I stand for. I am a moderate with a clear vision to restore responsibility in the White House. There are radicals running with a suicidal mission to withdraw from the entire world, but I will proudly stand up and defend American efforts to eradicate the spectre of communism. As a young congressman in 1940, I motioned to declare war on Hitler's Germany. While I wasn't successful then, what I predicted came to be true, and I am just as certain of the dangers we face today. The people of this country want a leader who promotes reason, strength, and frugality. I hope to be your voice this election, and I will now be traveling across the country to secure the Democratic nomination.

Thank you.

Americans for Morgens

January 2nd
     -Barnstorming in New Hampshire
     -Townhall in Nashua
     -Tour of Conner Bottling Works

January 3rd
     -Barnstorming in New Hampshire
     -Townhall in Manchester
-Speech to Manchester Chamber of Commerce

"You know, folks, I voted for President Nixon in 1968. I thought he had what it took to address the fundamental economic problems in our country. But these last four years have proven me wrong.

The federal deficit is quickly approaching half-a-billion dollars. That is money our federal government is borrowing to get bigger and bigger, to spend more money on more projects and programs. The last decade has seen an incredible growth in government, but weak growth in the economy. Taxes and spending have gone up, but our household budgets have gotten smaller.

The deficit and government growth threatens the fundamentals of a growing economy. Businesses need to be able to borrow money to hire new workers, to build new factories, and to strengthen our communities. There is only so much money to lend and the federal government is taking up half-a-billion dollars of it. The government prevents growth, depresses wages, and shelters unemployment. The growth of the federal government is a secret tax on the American people, one of the largest taxes in the country."

January 4th
     -Barnstorming in New Hampshire
     -Townhall in Bedford
     -Speech on War on Poverty

"Poverty strangles the soul. Poverty makes those forced to endure it feel as though there is nothing left in the world they can fight for. I believe the duty of the federal government is to tell them that idea is wrong. If the federal government is to pursue a strategy to eliminate poverty, it must do so by giving people the power to change their own lives, not trying to change it for them.

The policies put in place under Johnson and continued under Nixon have not fulfilled this goal. As a businessman, I helped put thousands of people across this country to work. I saw firsthand the great things that a job can do for a person. Waking up in the morning, going to work, earning a living, and taking care of your family provides us the grounding we need to be happy in life. Welfare, as conceived by Nixon and Johnson, has not done this."

January 4th
     -Barnstorming in New Hampshire
     -Townhall in Concord
-Roundtable with Concord community on deficit

Goldwater Jr. in '72!

(Goldwater Jr. announcing his run for president)
Good evening! Over the course of a few months I've put a lot of thought and prayer into this decision I have made, and I have as of four hours ago filed the proper paperwork to run for the great office of President of these United States.

Now I'm sure you are wondering why I of all people am running against President Nixon. Well, like many of you here I voted for him, for the promises that he gave, for American renewal, for ending the war in Vietnam, for stopping the excesses of government, for an improved economy. But instead the President has failed to deliver on his promises. Let's look at each of these promises that we, the "Silent Majority" voted for last election.

Over the course of the past few years we've seen increased bombing in Vietnam, and still our troops die at the hand of the VietCong in lands thousands of miles away from their home! All of this at the order of the President. The draft is still in place, sending young men to a foreign land to die without a choice! Instead we must let the Vietnamese fight their own battles, and while we may support their cause, our policy of helping them is all wrong, we need to work on a peace, rather than furthering death and destruction. This administration has instead put conquering the Vietnamese at a higher priority than making peace. Furthermore, we've seen these lies of this administration reported on through the recently revealed Pentagon Papers, yet the President still does not answer to us, his Silent Majority.

When it is not Vietnam, the president supports dictators in foreign lands over democratically elected leaders, when those leaders disagree with what the president wants! If we want to end this Cold War, we need allies that we can trust, not demagogues and theocrats! We need to talk with the Soviets and Chinese, open up trade, so that we all can benefit, and the common people in those countries will see us and want to be like us, free and democratic!

When it comes to his domestic policy, all we see are failures to meet the promises of the people who elected him. He promised to curb spending and government programs, to improve the economy for all, but instead he has only done the opposite. We have seen the government takeover of medicine, price controls and distortion of the economy, and the elimination of the Gold Standard. All of these things together, combined with the foreign wars will only lead to bankruptcy!

That is why I am running, to fulfill the promises of that this administration was elected on, making peace in Vietnam, restoring the economy through ways that work like tax cuts, budget restraints, and sound money. Not dictating how lives should be run, instead I am here to run for that silent majority that is being silenced! If we want America to remain the greatest country, a country of democracy and freedom, than we need a strong economy and a wise foreign policy, two things the president has worked against. The time to bring back the golden age of America is now, and I will obey the promises I have made to you.

Thank you, and god bless the United States of America.

Announcement from The Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.
George McGovern is running for President!

I stand among my fellow South Dakotans today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States.  The crisis we face at this moment is real;  no nation can tolerate a government that shows no regard for the people’s basic needs and no respect for our right to the truth from our leaders.
Too many in this administration have forgotten that government is the servant – not the master – of the people . . . that government has the responsibility for assuring the people their basic rights needed to ensure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Among these rights are jobs with decent wages, the ability to work in safe conditions, the assurance of comprehensive health care and social services, adequate housing in thriving communities, access to quality education for all, protection against governmental interference and discrimination, and – most of all – the right to not be drafted into this Administration’s unjust war.

Working families are suffering and losing ground under this Administration.  The Nixon “game plan” has led to tens of millions of families suffering joblessness or work cutbacks in the guise of “fighting inflation.”  Prices have soared, rising faster this year that at any time in the past decade.  And yet the Administration’s policies have shifted the tax burden from the wealthy onto the back of working class families.  This is unacceptable.  We need policies that reward hard work as a fair measure of our own willingness to achieve by instituting a higher minimum wage, programs that support jobs through public works and public service, and that protect the rights of labor through collective bargaining.  But we also must recognize that families sometimes fall on hard times and need our societal help with higher unemployment compensation, effective unemployment programs that keep jobs in the United States rather than sending them abroad, and social support programs such as food stamps and schools lunches.

I believe in the rights of citizens to achieve to the limit of their talents and energies. We must remove barriers that limit citizens because of the color of their skin, their ethnic heritage, or their gender.  And we MUST safeguard the advances in civil rights that we have fought so hard for.  This Administration has failed to enforce laws that protect key legal rights, such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  They have eroded our civil liberties and the principles of due process with their phone-tapping and surveillance of law-abiding citizens and their censorship of the press.  This Administration has acted without constraint, failing to recognize that the law must apply equally to all and that it must be an instrument of justice.

And, finally, we must end American participation in the war in Southeast Asia.  War is a waste of human life. This war has cost 50,000 American lives and $150 billion of our resources, and has divided us from each other, drained our national will and inflicted incalculable damage to countless people.  I call for the immediate total withdrawal of all Americans from Southeast Asia and the abolition of the military draft.

I stand as a proud citizen before the people of Mitchell, the people of South Dakota, and the people of America, to announce my candidacy for President of the United States.  Together we can restore the principles of a representative democracy, returning the ideals of domestic progress and enlightened internationalism to this great Nation.

Sam Yorty Campaign Schedule: January 2-8

January 2
-Meet and Greet in Plymouth, NH
-Meet and Greet in Epping, NH
-Meet and Greet in Meredith, NH
-Opening of campaign office in Manchester, NH

With the opening of my new campaign office here in Manchester, I'm proud to say that I will be investing a great deal of my time in the nation's first primary over these next two months. New Hampshire has shown that they can have a great influence on the campaign cycle. Just four years ago, an incumbent president dropped out after his poor performance here! With your help, a victory here can bring the momentum we need to overcome the odds and secure the nomination.

January 3
-Meet and Greet in Seabrook, NH
-Meet and Greet in Bristol, NH
-Town Hall in Alton, NH
-Town Hall in New Boston, NH
-Town Hall in Wakefield, NH

January 4
-Town Hall in Brookline, NH
-Town Hall in Auburn, NH
-Town Hall in Raymond, NH
-Town Hall in Franklin, NH
-Town Hall in Bow, NH

January 5
-Meet and Greet in Loudon, NH
-Meet and Greet in Rye, NH
-Meet and Greet in Greenville, NH
-Rally in Hudson, NH
-Rally in Concord, NH

I admit that I'm not the most well-known of the Democrats running this year. However, if you already know who I am, you may have heard that I have quite a reputation for being a character. *chuckles* People have given me plenty of nicknames over the years. Everyone calls me Mayor Sam in my hometown of Los Angeles, but there's also Travelin' Sam, Mad Sam Yorty, and—perhaps my favorite—Saigon Sam, among others. Look, call me what you want, but I tell it like it is and I'm not afraid to speak up for myself. We need more politicians who are willing and able to do that. I'm going around the country speaking my message and I hope that it will be receptive to a large audience. If I must call out a few people while on the campaign trail, no hesitations here!

January 6
-Town Hall in Lebanon, NH
-Town Hall in Salem, NH
-Roundtable Meeting in Rochester, NH
-Rally and Fundraiser in Nashua, NH

January 7
-Rally and Fundraiser in Bakersfield, CA
-Rally and Fundraiser in Fairfield, CA
-Rally and Fundraiser in Los Angeles, CA
-Meeting with California Democratic Party leaders in Los Angeles, CA

You know, I read Congressman Schmitz's remarks on President Nixon the other day. What a guy, huh? Calling Nixon a communist is a little far out there, to say the least, but there is a nugget of truth to what he said that day. I feel that the President has been too weak when it comes to engaging the evil that is communism. His Vietnam policy is a reflection of how the peaceniks have gotten into his head, which is a shame. We need leadership that sends a clear signal on what our foreign policy is. That means avoiding situations like secretly bombing Cambodia while publicly embracing Red China at the same time.

January 8
-Town Hall in Florence, AZ
-Town Hall in Sun Lakes, AZ
-Town Hall in Paradise Valley, AZ
-Town Hall in Sierra Vista, AZ
-Rally and Fundraiser in Tuscon, AZ

Campaign Activities

-Setting up campaign offices in early primary states (New Hampshire, Arizona, Florida)
-Securing endorsements from local party leaders in early primary states
-Fundraising in major American cities
-Advertising (direct mail) in early primary states

Note: The Yorty campaign will be filing in the New Hampshire and Florida primaries.

McCarthy Announces Presidential Candidacy

"Friends, four years ago, Nixon promised an end to the Military's international police state. Sadly, we have seen just the opposite. Instead of working to obtain a quick withdrawal from Vietnam, he has instead bombed it and nearby countries. Nixon can chant about how he will obtain peace in his 2nd term, but the american people has absolutely no basis to believe that he will even try. The man has shown that he was only pretending to be anti-war to get votes. And it's not just Vietnam. With every country out there, Nixon believes it is his job to rat out any form of government he dislikes. That's not how America should be. America should be accepting of other countries choices about what government they want to have. We should maintain peaceful, open relations to countries of communism and all other ideologies. Our military should become solely a defensive force and should permantely stop this crusading around the world. It is morally wrong, it is stupid, it does not achieve anything except forced death of drafted american men and making America look bad, and it has balloned our national debt.

And it's not just his foreign policy that has stained America. His domestic policy has resulted in a culture of rapid inflation and rising unemployment. He has opposed the busing practices that are essential to removing the stain of segregation from our schools. He has spent, and spent, and spent, and has produced absolutely no result except the continued weakening of our economy.

As Nixon's presidency has continued, I've grown more and more concerned for America. And I've decided that this nation simply cannot bear to suffer any longer. I've realized that all the serious presidential candidates don't agree with me on the incredibly important foreign policy issues. So, I've decided to run for President of the United States! With myself at the helm, this nation will see the stain of Nixon definitively removed from it - before my first term is over! We'll restore this nation, and leave it in great condition for our children and grandchildren! Thank you for coming out today, and may God bless the United States of America!"
