x Barnes

I've wanted to play a radical center party for quite some time!  I've always thought one of the merits of an online game is that you can play an ideology different (if not, in this case, so radically so) from one's own.

And adding to the discussion on leadership positions, the split idea of a parliamentary leader and a chairman is the only way to really work in a parliamentary.  Now, of course, the former position is the true leader of the party in RL settings, but the delineation of authority is for us to decide I suppose. I've prepared a draft constitution.  Please give feedback and suggestions - particularly to the sections in red.

Election by the full party would seem best at the moment anyway, I agree.

The time limits for conference seem fine to me.  Are we OK with having the conference every six months?

Additionally, I haven't put anything in regarding the drawing up of party lists for elections.  I thought it was best to get ideas from everyone first.

Sounds fine with me, SJoyce. I just threw in something that I thought could work as a placeholder.

Would someone be interested in writing the specifics?

I've updated my second post to reflect the changes.

I was going to put something about the logo, but I see that Talley already has something in the OP.  I'd be highly interested in using something already in use by a South American party.

I was initially going to go with the DA's symbol but had reservations because Atlasia had a similar party and logo several years ago.  It really wouldn't be a big deal however.

I don't see the reasons for a delay, to be honest, all of the other parties have decided on logos.

However, we do have an interim banner, so if we go into an election shortly we can always use that to get us through.

Before we hold any leadership elections, I suggest we formally endorse the party constitution. I have a few modifications that I would like to put forward in a while before we finalize it.

The idea is to allow multiple members a chance to hold the post without having to challenge an incumbent.

I've never been a fan of any kind of term limits on MPs or leadership positions, it just seems weird in my mind, but that's me.  The Leader does have to be re-elected after every general election, so assuming a Parliament runs its full term, about every ten weeks.  I should hope that if we have a poorly performing leader and/or bad election results they would be gallant enough to stand down, or a challenger would emerge.

I'm open to amendments, of course.  This is a document for the whole party.

I'll just remind everyone that we haven't formally approved the Constitution; however, declarations now will help speed up the process when we do.

I second Talleyrand for Leader.

I nominate SJoyce for Deputy Leader.

What do you all think about this?  We keep the color scheme and include a bird that gives a bit of a nod to South America.

Glad to see that the that the Parrot is popular!  I'll put it in the constitution if there are no objections.

I'm fine with removing the automatic elections - the original purpose was to ensure that there were regular checks on the leadership, but I believe now that such a move would be superfluous.

Blair, you cannot hold both positions at the same time; the three elected members are supposed to represent the party rank and file - the backbenches.

EDIT: I've updated my most recent post of the constitution to include the changes.

Ok, I would like to get a vote on approving the Constitution started.

I move: "That the draft constitution detailed below be adopted as the official constitution of the Social Liberals."

Having been moved and seconded, the question is that the motion "the draft constitution detailed below be adopted as the official constiution of the Social Liberals" be adopted.

As many as are of that opinion say Aye; those opposed No.

Aye.

The Ayes to the right nine, the noes to the left nil.

So the ayes have it, the ayes have it. The constitution stands approved.

Seeing as we have been making nominations for three days, I hope no member will object to me closing nominations on all positions except for Executive where a full slate has yet to be nominated.

Chairman
Barnes has been nominated and seconded and being the only candidate duly nominated is declared elected as Chairman

Parliamentary Leader
Talleyrand has been nominated and seconded and being the only candidiate duly nominated is declared elected as Leader.

Deputy Parliamentary Leader
SJoyce and Blair have both been duly nominated and seconded. A ballot will be held for the position of Deputy Leader

Executive
Vega and X have been duly nominated. Nominations will be held open for a further twenty-four hours to see if a third member wishes to nominate.

Per the Constitution, campaigning for the position of Deputy Leader will commence for a period of forty-eight (48) hours.
