The Socialist Party

1. To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service.

2. To foster a society in which the divisions imposed by class, race, gender and orientation become as nothing, and in which the physical environment is accorded the respect and protection to which it is due.

X Crabcake, you can't have a genuine politics simulation without a good few leftist splinters.
Welcome, comrade!

Also the vote is canceled.

We shall now start debating a party program, so go ahead and throw some ideas out.

My proposals:

Support for the democratic ownership of industry.
Support for worker's rights.
Support for the welfare state and it's expansion.

I support all of your proposals. I would also propose the following:

Fighting climate change and furthering environmental protection
Combatting racism, sexism, homophobia, and other hateful ideologies
Ensuring that the will of the people is protected through a fair and democratic political system (tentative, could be modified based on how the provisional parliament designs the game)
Opposition to imperialism and militarism, and support for democracy abroad

Since the party is pretty broad in terms of ideology, we should probably stick to general goals rather than specific policy proposals, unless any of you have some ideas for specific goals that the party should emphasize.

I can type up a more detailed manifesto later tonight if need be. Also, I'm not particularly skilled at this sort of thing, but someone should work on designing a party logo.
Totally support everything here.

All social and economic issues, are, at their heart interlinked, comrade. My suggestion:

- we strive for an egalitarian world free of the divisions imposed by class, race, gender, and orientation.
- every person, by right, should have quality education, healthcare, housing and employment if they wish.
- this extends beyond our borders, for human rights ar universal.

I would also want an animal rights platform in there, but should throw it up to debate is that's too specific.
Support for all the proposals though I'm a bit iffy on the animal rights part.

I think we should have a vote on it.

Either vote for option 1, 2 or you may right one in.

1. PJ's proposal of all proposals

or

2. Snowguys proposal of using just the first 3

24 hours for the vote.

I think we should now decide on the powers of the position of Chairman.

My proposal:
Leads the debate with in the party and keeps things civil
and has a 2 month term and may also be recalled by a petition of half of the membership of the party.

I would also like to know if you guys think I should step down or seek election.

I'm not comfortable with structuring party leadership until the provisional parliament structures the basic levels of the game. Party leader elections ought to be based off of actual parliamentary elections somewhat, and we have no idea how long parliamentary terms will be right now. Additionally, party leadership will look very different depending on if elections are conducted under PR or FPTP. Once these decisions are worked out by the provisional parliament, then we should look at party leadership and elections.
Ok then, we'll hold  off on the debate.

And I hate to be that guy, but I would also suggest a re-write of the platform. It currently reads like something produced by a Student Union and will be an open invitation from other parties to not take us seriously.
How would you right it?

There are different structural models to consider anyway. As a general point I would recommend a division between the management of the party as an organisation and the party leader/prime ministerial candidate/etc.
I agree fully.

So how about this? The first part may be familiar to some people here but is a classic for a reason...

Now that we know elections will use closed list, another question to consider is whether or not we want to employ the use of primaries to decide the ordering of the list, and if so, how the primaries will be conducted.
What does everyone think about doing Primaries?
