From World Tribune:

Turkey was said to have massed troops along its southern border with Iraq.

Kurdish opposition sources said thousands of Turkish troops have been gathering in positions near the Iraqi border. They said the Turkish military formation was taking place in the Kurdish areas of southeastern Turkey.

The Turkish troops deployed near the Iraqi border were identified as units of two commando brigades, Bolu and Kayseri. The sources said the commando forces were seen in the Cukurca district of Hakkari.

The sources said more than 10,000 troops have been deployed in Cukurca.

They said information on the troop concentrations was relayed by the Turkish Gendarmerie Command to forces in the district.

"It was learned that these preparations are being carried out within the framework of an operation against south Kurdistan ," the Kurdish television Roj, based in Copenhagen, reported on April 26.

You would think not, but then again maybe Turkey is stupid enough to go to war with the world's only superpower.

If they do this, there better not be a green blade of grass left in Turkey.

Turkey is a member of NATO. So is the U.S., so technically, the rest of NATO would be forced to attack Turkey if Turkey attacked the U.S. In other words, NATO countries attacking another NATO country because it attacked a NATO country. Although technically, France could argue that NATO is not activated as Iraq is an "independent country". Then the U.S. would be forced to argue that's horsesh**t, Iraq is not independent, its obviously ruled by the U.S. That would be a good argument, except it wouldn't look very good. Wow, that is complicated!!

I've heard rumors of this from April 2003 on.

They're probably just doing something to round up PKK remnants, or they're just posturing to warn the Kurds not to try anything funny.

But in case they do actually do anything in Iraq...they die.  The Kurds kill them, the Kurds in Turkey revolt, and the entire area blows up--before we can even react.  Turkey, despite gaining some brownie points from the French Trotskyistes, will never join the EU.

The Turks have the closest thing to a real army in the vicinity, however I agree they are no match for the occupiers.  All these Bush wars remind me of the British mowing down the spear-weilding Hottentots with machine guns.  Or perhaps more precisely to the point, Italy's invasion and brutal subjugation of Ethiopia!

Huge overreacting. They would never attack Iraq, this is most likely just actions against the PKK.

They are probably trying to stop Kurdish terrorists from border-hopping.

Turkey has no plausible reason for invading Iraq.

Well in that part of the world moderation isn't usually followed!

They hate the Kurds, that's why! They probably won't do it but it's probably a scare tactic.

On the other hand, Greece and Turkey actually fought a war.
