I would agree that if the Democrats nominate Alan Keyes for Senate in New Jersey, this is probably a Republican pick-up.

Have any of you folks touting Kean Jr. actually seen him campaign?  It's not like Democrats were particularly excited about Obama until we actually saw him in action.  Are Republicans being a little premature here?

Have you actually seen Bob Casey, Jr. "campaign?" The guy comes across as a complete idiot (I'm not saying he is an idiot but that's the general opinion of the guy) yet Dems have no problem with that. There's no way you are being premature. The PA and NJ Senate races are almost identical. The problem: Democrats like to think it's all going their way.

Except for the fact that PA is a swing state and New Jersey is a Democratic stronghold (last Republican Senator from NJ, 1972).  Kean has a lot more ground to make up.

Anyway, I did some research on Kean and apparently a Kean win is Democrat win.  The guys at Free Republic are still wondering who the Republicans will run.  PoliticsNJ had this to say, “it's like the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.  People say he doesn’t exist, but he does: He’s a left of center Republican."

People say he doesn’t exist, but he does: He’s a left of center Republican."

PA is a swing state. Ok? That has nothing to do with this race. Barbara Hafer as the nominee for the Dems would have meant a more than five point win for Santorum. Does that make PA a non-swing state? What you out-of-state people have to stop doing is associating everything in PA with our Presidential voting.

Kean does not have a lot more ground to make up. Look at his likely competition. Nominate Menendez - Kean unifies the south and central parts of the state. Nominate Pallone - Most of state scratches head, saying, "Frank who?" Nominate Andrews - Yes, I'll admit it would be tough but he's the only candidate the GOP should really be worried about.

A Kean win is a Democrat win. Good one. Free Republic is still wondering who the GOP will run. Good one.  Roll Eyes  When it comes down to Kean's stances, I have asked NixonNow, who assures me that he's a conservative though I had pictured him as a moderate. It is yet to be seen whether Mr. Kean will be a conservative or liberal or moderate but we Republicans have seen one thing: He is a whole lot better than what the Democrats have to offer!

Corzine will likely appoint someone who will not seek re-election.  Who's the favorite in a primary?  (Im asking because I really have no idea.  Andrews?  Menendez?)

Hey, I was just quoting the guys over at FreeRepublic.  Check for yourself.  I could care less what NixonNow the partisan hack has to say.  Every other source including FreeRepublic and PoliticsNJ  has Kean down as a liberal-Republican.

Wrong. This will be a real fight to see who the appointment will be because a number of them really want the position and would seek re-election. I think Menendez is the favorite though there was talk that a deal was made between Andrews and Corzine so Andrews would get the seat. Frank Pallone, who has already declared his candidacy for 2006 is also in the running.

NixonNow the partisan hack? He has more knowledge of NJ politics than anyone else on this forum. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to this topic. I love it when people like yourself act like they know what's going on, then admit that they don't know a few things about the race and then insist that they know more than people who follow this stuff. Also, what "other source" has Kean down as a liberal Republican?

Nice try, Nick. That was not the posted opinion of the FreeRepublic; it was an opinion by an individual poster.

The PA and NJ Senate races are almost identical. The problem: Democrats like to think it's all going their way.

I saw of a lot of Casey's campaign for Governor in 2002 when I was working as a pollster for the Rendell campaign, and I didn't think he was a very good candidate  then.  I have no idea if he's improved.  But I do think it's a mistake for the Dems to count this one in the bag.   It will be a very close race with a ton of national money and attention, and I am not prepared to pick a favorite right now.

But the only similarity between the PA and NJ races is that two candidates have famous names.  PA is already a well-formed race with well-known candidates who have both been elected statewide, and the national parties will make sure to turn it in to a referendum on continued conservative Republican rule.

In NJ, we have no idea who the Democrat will be, aren't certain about the Republican, and almost surely will have a race between people who have no statewide experience.  Moreover, the race will not be a national referendum, as Kean will almost surely run away from the Bush agenda.  It will be much more like an open-seat race with candidates running on platforms rather than record.

Phil, you throw your 2 cents into every topic like you are the authority.  Im simply pointing out the fact that NJ is a state that has'nt elected a Republican Senator since 1972.  New Jersey is a state that currently has a Democratic Governor (soon to be a new one, Corzine) and two Democratic Senators.  New Jersey is a state that John Kerry won by a solid 7%.  And yet you still say Kean has more of an advantage in the state I just described than Bob Casey Jr. does in Pennsylvania. If NixonNow isnt a hack, I dont know who is.  Prove to me NixonNow has more knowledge than Cashcow or any other NJ resident?  Your on NixonNow's jock.  You always have been, you always will be.

But the downside for the Dems in NJ is that there will be one well known name (Kean) vs. someone less well know/not liked all that much.

We do have some idea on who the Dem will be. It's pretty much between Andrews, Menendez and Pallone.

Are you joking? If there is one Senate race in the entire country where the GOP will make sure a candidate is set up for an easy win in the primary, it will be in NJ. Tom Kean, Jr. will be the nominee.

Now neither will have statewide experience (except Andrews) but Kean has a statewide name. Run that name against Menendez or Pallone and it's a big plus.

I throw my two cents in when I feel it is needed. That's bad though, right? You through your two cents in and don't have a clue but it's ok.

You clearly don't understand the way the state would work in a Kean vs. Menendez or Pallone matchup. You have joined the partisan hacks ranks.

(By the way, I love how you throw in the Kerry 7% "solid" win. That's a five point drop from 2000, pal.)

I'll ignore last part of your post because it's immature. I form my own opinions. NixonNow and I happen to agree. Such a shame, isn't it?

Now go post another article about something, act like you know what you're talking about and then make yourself look like a fool.

I'm putting in my opinion. I happen to know more than you on this topic. If anything, you act like you have more authority yet admit that you don't know much about some topics relating to the NJ Senate race. You then call NixonNow a partisan hack after he points out several ways that he's not a hack and then make the immature comment about me. Real mature. I happen to agree with someone who knows more than you and I'm "on their jock."  Roll Eyes

You are on his jock.  If he said NJ was going to flip in 2008.  You would say, "Oh yes, NixonNow.  All mighty of NJ politics."

Let me get this straight for the record and then Im done with this conversation...

Im a partisan hack, but NixonNow is not.

One more time, Im a hack.

You had facts...that really had nothing to do with this. You just don't understand. We'll see who's right when it's Kean vs. Menendez. We'll see how great your "NJ hasn't elected a Republican to the Senate since..." talk was.

I form my own opinions. Point out one area where I just went along with what NixonNow said. In fact, you idiot, NixonNow said Casey would lose in the Senate race while I say he's likely to win. Tell me how I'm still on his jock. NixonNow seems to be a big supporter of Lincoln Chafee. Do I go along with that, Nick? Nope. Get the story right before you post and make yourself look dumb.

Some things in the past have made me believe NixonNow is partisan.  Maybe at a local level he isnt, but Ive seen posts before that proves his partisanship.  You being on his jock was more or less a comment to piss you off.  But I rarley see you disagree with him.
