Absolutely despicable. The great irony in Republicans being so gun-ho about maintaing some level of restrictions is that increased US/Cuban economic ties would bolster democratization efforts.

Looks like they're stuck in the Cold War mindset.

Obama should veto the bill. This is a fight that he (and Hillary) should be eager to have with Republicans.

Thank God! Why should we contribute to the economy of an oppressive state

You're not just restricting the 'contribution' to the economy and whatnot, your also restricting citizens from just visiting here, which will piss people off. But while we are on the subject of free trade, its quite ironic that someone who probably claims to be a small government fiscal conservative such as yourself (please correct if I'm wrong) would restrict the free flow of money and consumption.

Considering Cuba is still merrily Communist, I don't think that's worked. At all.

Anyway, the restriction should be lifted, it makes no sense. Do what restrict travel to China? Myanmar? Vietnam? Or Saudi Arabia and others for that matter?

Vietnam has almost the same Freedom House ratings and we're thinking of entering a "free" trade agreement with them.

Someone who knows about this, inform me.

There's that promising anti-cancer vaccine from Cuba. Does this particular vote have anything to do with that?

Because if it does, Republicans are ing awful and really should have their ability to organize as a party removed.

The GOP is the party of choice for elderly, wealthy former Batista supporters in Miami. Also, they're not about to grant Obama any concessions, now that they have both houses of Congress.

Can't say I'm surprised by this.

It's amazing how much the GOP lives in not only the past, but some weird idealized version of the past, and this is part of it. This is yet another item on the table that makes no sense whatsoever. It's embarrassing, actually. Amazes me that they are a major party and that by now the major rightist party is not some kind of a libertarian party.

Why do people want so badly to appease a nation that oppresses its people?

But, what sense does it make to single out Cuba, when there's a mile-long list of "oppressive nations" which the State Department sees fit to not only allow trade and travel, but to arm and finance the regimes too?

I am amazed that there are still posters who are seriously trying to refute CCSF's inanities.

I still don't understand why him and a couple of others haven't been banned for bigotry and trolling (if either of those are bannable).

Regarding the topic matter though, I say that if a policy isn't working (like the old Cuba policy), change it.

Send Shakur and Morales back on the next boat over, and then we can talk.
