Democrats become a conservative, states' rights party. The Republicans become a moderately libertarian party. People in DC suddenly forget it's not 1865, and start voting Republican.

Wallace/Matheson vs. Rockefeller/Nixon.  I have no idea why New Hampshire and Maine vote that way.
