It
is the second international language, as in the second most translated to and from, for all intents and purposes. It is also one of the very few "bridge-languages" for translations, which allow to indirectly translate most of the world's idioms (with English and Russian, mainly). And quite a number of international organizations have their seat in France or French-speaking regions. So it is not
that far-fetched, actually.
