Nyman to Win the Democratic Nomination in Near Sweep

Senate Majority Leader Eric Nyman (D-MI) has the Democratic Nomination wrapped up after easily disposing of Kramer, Bartlett, Lundregen, and that little joke Longley.

Alaska: 14 Delegates
G. Lundregen (MN): 41.1%, 14 Delegates
E. Nyman (MI): 23.9%
H. Bartlett (IA): 16.3%
L. Longley (WA): 10.1%
P. Kramer (AR): 8.6%

Lundregen, being a North Man himself, was very popular in Alaska. No candidate visited and Nyman decided to allow him to win another Primary besides his home state.

California: 614 Delegates
E. Nyman (MI):45.2%, 572 Delegates
H. Bartlett (IA): 17.2%, 21 Delegates
L. Longley (WA): 16.7%, 21 Delegates
P. Kramer (AR): 12.1%
G. Lundregen (MN): 8.8%

Nyman won a huge victory in California due to several factors, these being more money, more media coverage, and simply having greater appeal to the Democratic base in California. Kramer had a strong campaign, trying to sway votes from the heavily religious working poor (especially amongst Hispanics). For a while it looked as if he could take second place, but then a disaster in the from of “The Choice PAC” rallied the liberal majority of California against him. The ads declared:

”Senator Kramer said this while running for reelection to the Senate, “If ever I had the chance to use the power of an office to outlaw the scourge of abortion from this fair land, it would be as President” Can the pro-choice majority in America afford a Kramer Presidency?”

The abortion issue, tied with race baiting by pro-illegal immigration advocates, sunk the Kramer Campaign.

Hawaii: 36 Delegates
E. Nyman (MI): 51.2%, 36 Delegates
L. Longley (WA): 21.1%
L. Trondheim (HI): 16.8%
H. Bartlett (IA): 8.6%
P. Kramer (AR): 2.3%

Lieutenant Governor Lewis Trondheim of Hawaii took third, in the only exciting thing in this primary where Nyman was expected to win easily, and did.

Kansas: 41 Delegates

E. Nyman (MI): 31.4%, 20 Delegates
G. Lundregen (MN): 18.9%
L. Longley (WA): 12.1%

Yeah Mr. Bartlett, being gay doesn’t really help you in Kansas, now does it? Kramer running against evolution, abortion, and “the immorality of the Hollywood elite,” won a narrow victory over Nyman, who got huge support from Lawrence and Topeka. Longley celebrated his achievement of 12% of the vote by wearing a Bob Dole mask and running through his hotel yelling, “Bob Dole says ‘Bob Dole’.” Members of the Bob Dole Imaginary Presidential Library Society were very much not pleased.

Minnesota: 137 Delegates
G. Lundregen (MN): 30.1%, 65 Delegates
E. Nyman (MN): 30%, 65 Delegates
P. Kramer (AR): 16.5%, 7 Delegates

After almost two years of hard fought campaigning, Vice-President Gustaf Lundregen dropped out of the campaign for President. “After driving myself nearly $2 million in debt I can run no longer,” a bitter Lundregen declared last night from the Minneapolis Hilton, “The Democratic establishment wants nothing to do with me, and I say so be it. This party believes it must tie itself to the left wing, go ahead, of course the last two Democratic Presidents were moderates like myself, but go ahead and choose Nyman, and I’ll choose Peter.” Vice-President Lundregen is scheduled to appear tomorrow at a Bell-Delaney Campaign rally in Cincinnati to officially endorse the ticket.

Nebraska: 37 Delegates
P. Kramer (AR): 37.7%, 21 Delegates
E. Nyman (MI): 31.8%, 16 Delegates
G. Lundregen (MN): 22.6%
L. Longley (WA): 6.3%
H. Bartlett (IA): 1.6%

The home state of William Jennings Bryan went comfortably for the democrat’s new Bryan. However, like Bryan, it doesn’t look like Kramer will be in the White House any time soon.

Nevada: 210 Delegates
E. Nyman (MI): 55.5%, 154 Delegates
H. Bartlett (IA): 39.7%, 56 Delegates
L. Longley (NV): 3.6%
G. Lundregen (MN): 0.9%
P. Kramer (AR): 0.3%

Though this one would have been an easy victory for Bartlett after his victory in Iowa and his close loss in New Hampshire, his negative momentum destroyed any chance of him winning Nevada. Kramer and Lundregen (both seen checking phone booths for loose change) didn’t even visit Nevada. Longley was able to do well amongst drunken old women in Los Angeles, but this is not a constituency I would want to win.

Nyman to Hire Tweed as Campaign Manager

DETROIT, Michigan -- A statement released by the Nyman campaign indicated that Presidential candidate Sen. Eric Nyman (D-MI) had secured the services of  New York mayor Boss Tweed. Mr. Tweed had endorsed Mr. Nyman following the New Hampshire primary, but gave no indication of further plans, except maybe to put his foot in his mouth regarding New Hampshire voters.

While attempts to reach the Nyman camp for further comment were unsuccessful, one would assume that Mr. Tweed will be given full authority over the campaign, replacing the current manager, Mr. Jtfdem. Mr. Tweed believed this, saying, "Why would I leave New York for the rest of America if it weren't a damn good job opportunity?"

Why Mr. Nyman would dump his campaign manager after running through the Democratic primary schedule virtually unscathed is up in the air, although several unidentified staffers said Mr. Nyman didn't give a lot of credit to Mr. Jtfdem for his success. Such a move is unlike Mr. Nyman, who has been known for loyalty and not jumping to a more glitzy ship throughout his political career. Clearly, Mr. Tweed must have made an impressive pitch.

"I believe that Senator Nyman is very capable of winning this election. Surely, there are obstacles, but I believe I can lead his campaign through them and across to victory."

Several poltical observers questioned the move, saying that Mr. Tweed brings a lot of baggage to a candidate known for being honest and respectable. Said Yale Professor of American Politics Dazzle A. Man, "Mr. Nyman, who had the rare privilege of being a Senator without the insider image, has utterly thrown that down the drain by selecting the most insider of insiders."

In his time as Chairman of the Democratic National Committeee, Mr. Tweed was known for his heavy-handed ways, which turned off many people. However, he has a record of success in politics, and perhaps Mr. Nyman felt the need to infuse some poltical expertise into his candidacy.

I hear rumblings from serious left-wing leaders that they are unhappy with the message being put out by the Nyman campaign. They are reportedly unhappy that as Senator, Nyman refused to take a strong enough stand against school uniforms, and are even more upset that he did not refute that statement in the January 11th debate when asked. They had reportedly been holding out hope that a candidate more staunchly opposed to school uniforms would have emerged as the winner of the Democratic primary, but with Nyman in good shape to win, these prominent leaders are considering their options. A high-ranking figure is quoted as saying, "It is incomprehensible that this election could go on without a candidate devoted to getting the Constitutional Amdendment to Ban School Uniforms through." We here at Daily Kos certainly hope that those leaders, who shall remain nameless, will throw their hat in the ring to give true liberals a choice in this election.

The Democratic National Convention is slated to take place in Denver, Colorado. Denver is something of a good omen for the Democrats, it is the site where Evan Bayh recieved the nomination en route to a win in 2008

Word out of the Republican National Committee is that their convention will be held in Philadelphia. The last time the RNC was held there, George W. Bush recieved the party nomination. That was 32 years ago.

Background to Britain in 2032

Following the 2009 general election (which saw David Cameron's Conservatives and David Milliband's Labour Party) tie in both the popular vote (45% each) and in the number of seats won (300 each), Menzies Campbell's Liberal Democrats (who ended up losing half their seats but holding the balance of power) announced that which ever party was committed to changing Britain's electoral system to STV (Single Transferable vote) would get the Lib Dems support in Parliament. After six months of neogations, Menzies Campbell announced that no party was able to give them that commitment and that they would vote down the next Queen's Speech. This move clearly rang with the British electorate who in a classic case of "a pox on both your houses" elected a Liberal Democrat government with a majority of 50. Menzies Campbell (as Prime Minister) thanked the British electorate for their vote of confidence and within a year STV was adopted as the new electoral method for the UK.

Because of STV no one party has had a majority of seats in Westminster since that election in 2011 and so at the last election held in 2031, the new Pan British Alliance (made up for right wing Conservatives, UKIP and BNP members)  is the largest party in the Commons with it's triumrivate of David Burrowes (Con) as PM, Nigel Farage (UKIP) as Deputy PM and Richard Barnbrook (BNP) as Chancellor with the opposition Liberal Socialist Alliance (a combination of Liberal Democrats and centre leaning Labour) and the rump of the former Labour Party (now called the True Socialist Party) reduced to just 40 seats.

As the American Elections of 2032 arrived Mr. Burrowes found his government divided over the issue of the US sponsored "War on Issues" (a spin off from the war effort against terror groups first mentioned in 2002) which led to the US government tackling single issues in an attempt to bring the UK and the US closer following the soiled relations followin the war in Iraq (which started in 2003). However a meeting between a presidential candidate and a member of the BNP started rumours flying at Westminster of a potential leadership challenge to Mr. Burrowes
