Gov. Blagojevich has enjoyed generally favorable treatment from the Chicago media in IL, but that looks like it might change. A scathing audit report of the state's Central Management Agency casts considerable doubt on the administration. After some days of front page news, the Chicago Tribune had this editorial on Thursday.

The large field of potential GOP challengers have been leaping on the story. Three of them were present at a fundraiser Thursday evening. Even a number of Democrats have been heard complaining over this new revelation.

The 2006 contest in IL may get more interesting...

The Chicago Tribune is traditionally a Republican newspaper.  Honestly, I haven't read it so I wouldn't know where it's bias lies.

The Trib's editorial pages have tended towards the moderate-conservative side over the years. They have also consistently backed good-government Democrats. The Trib, like the Sun Times (my other link) and the major Chicago TV stations, have generally given the Governor a lot of good press anticipating that there would be a change from the corruption that marked the Ryan administration.

This audit report highlights practices that have been hinted at in earlier stories that didn't get much play. If the collective Chicago media start following this with frequent coverage, it may make next year more competitive than many expected.

Thanks for the support, but I'll stay a little more local for now. Wink
