The Chicago Tribune is traditionally a Republican newspaper. Honestly, I haven't read it so I wouldn't know where it's bias lies.
The Trib's editorial pages have tended towards the moderate-conservative side over the years. They have also consistently backed good-government Democrats. The Trib, like the Sun Times (my other link) and the major Chicago TV stations, have generally given the Governor a lot of good press anticipating that there would be a change from the corruption that marked the Ryan administration.
This audit report highlights practices that have been hinted at in earlier stories that didn't get much play. If the collective Chicago media start following this with frequent coverage, it may make next year more competitive than many expected.
