Have you ever been to Nebraska?

Its is Conservative with a capital K. they al invest in wallstret no matter how much money they have. they are scared to even loosen the top shirt button. everyone attends church no matter whats happening.

Vermont isnt as liberal as California. California has a lod of nazis north of LA - ventura county its ridiculous. conservative people actually vote for people like Boxer becasue the extremism of the nazis. You can do anything in California now and California has alot of unions which conservatives hate. just ask Arnold.

I opted for Wisconsin because no matter what republicans do they can never make any ground. even in rural areas the democrats do better than republicans. milwaukee is unlike alot of cities and votes 50-50. why thhe republicans always fail to make ground in wisconsin i never know. bush campaigned in the west parts of the state but still kerry picked up the counties. so it has to be a liberal state.

1984 was the last time that it voted republican. and republicans have spent millions in the state and they have never won. they come very close. but its the rural areas that pull it out for them. so i think the state is pretty liberal. feingold is a progressive and the republicans ran a hard race but lost 55-45. so it has to be in the top 10 but i`m going to be controversial and put it in the top 5.

I would like to note that if it were a state, the District of Columbia would probably qualify as the most liberal. Otherwise:

Conservative:
1. Nebraska
2. South Carolina
3. Alabama
4. Idaho
5. Kansas

Liberal:
1. Massachusetts
2. California
3. Vermont
4. Hawaii
5. Rhode Island

This really cannot be done without a economic/social division.

I already did this thread on another board.

My two cents:
liberal
1.Massachussets-cummon, the name "Massachussets liberal" doesn't refer to any other state and it was only to carry McGovern in 1972
2.Minnesota-only state to carry Mondale in 1984, also longest going Dem state in sequence of presidential elections.
3.Washington-(state) votes Democrat in presidential elections, has not had a Republican governor since 1980, and I don't think has ever had a conservative governor.
4.New York-popularized the term latte liberal, most of the population is around the city, which is very liberal. Even up state is pretty liberal for the rural areas
5.Vermont-used to be incredibly GOP back in the day.  Mostly independents, but they all vote liberal.  Voted for Bernie Sanders who is a self proclaimed socialist, 'nuff said

conservative
1.Utah-biggest mormon population, biggest % for Republican presidents in recent times, religious right, and home to Karl Rove
2.Mississippi-religious right, and the southern most state in the union.
3.Nebraska-even the pigs and roosters on the farms vote Republican (as my political science teacher once said), large rural state, lost of farms, subsidies by Republicans make farmers happy
4.Idaho-potato farms, and libertarian leaning Republicans
5.Texas-home to George W Bush and Tom Delay.  Even big cities vote Republican, and W has pretty much solidified the state for most future elections.

Most conservative is Wyoming or Texas

Most liberal is the only state that voted for George McGovern and gave John Kerry greater than 60% of the vote.

I'm sure that more than 85% of Vermonters would, although 85% is unrealistic for NJ.

Liberal

1. Vermont - Mass. without large social conservative pockets
2. Massachusetts - It's Massachusetts!
3. Rhode Island - Mass. but slightly more pro-life

The above 3 states clearly stand out as extremely liberal.

4. Hawaii - In a world of its own. Shouldn't even be part of U.S.
5. Washington - It's true, Western progressivism is more progressive than eastern progressivism

Why did I not include:
1. New York: Heavy ethnic/urban vote does not necessarily = liberal
2. California: Ditto to NY with regard to L.A. Also, too many people think just of L.A. and the Bay Area. They forget the rest of Southern California & the Central Valley. More people voted for Bush in California than in Texas. Also, a state where draconian property tax limits are untouchable politically is not that liberal.

Conservative

1. Utah - Mormon Central
2. Mississippi - Eliminate black vote and GOP % is MUCH higher
3. Alabama - Ditto. The stage of Roy Moore, but not AS southern as Mississippi. Ask Harry, when he gets out of jail.
4. Oklahoma - This is Texas without the metropolises. Combines southern & western conservatism. State of the Oklahoma City bombing. Easily elected Tom Coburn.
5. South Carolina - ditto to Mississippi. Easily elected Jim DeMint.

Why did I not include

1. Nebraska - probably #6
2. Idaho - Not Mormon enough, and has a slight libertarian streak.
3. Wyoming - Ditto.
4. Kansas - was pro-choice until 1991! Read Thomas Frank's book.
