From the King County Journal:

Dino Rossi on Wednesday said he will not run for the U.S. Senate, citing his desire to have an impact on the political culture of Washington state and the impact that serving in the other Washington would have on his young family. [...]

Chris Vance, chairman of the state Republican Party, said Wednesday that while he doesn't think Rossi will run, others may not take his "no" at face value.

"There are people and organizations who will want to change his mind," Vance said. "The senate campaign committee will try to persuade him otherwise."

Keystone Phil: oh, I'm sure he'll change his mind later.

Sheesh, this is what, the 15th time he's said so?

Anyway, this is a smart move on his part. Cantwell could expose him as the extremist he is that Gregoire foolishly decided not to attack him on and he wouldn't win. Better to simply wait and hope that Gregoire turns out to be a terrible governor and go for a rematch.

Yeah, he's going to gun for a rematch, which he probably will win unless Gregiore suddenly becomes more competent... actually being Governor should hurt her, not help her.

Besides, Rick White is a pretty good candidate versus Cantwell. It's not like this is Michigan or something.

There is still time for that and if he doesn't, oh well.

By the way, no one thought Casey would run in PA until the party went after him. If the national GOP really pushes Rossi, it will happen.

Rossi won't run and if he does he won't win! I really hope Gregoire doesn't run for re-election. Maybe we can get Mayor Nickels, or get Gardner back. Cheesy

No McDermott though plz.

I think former congresswoman Dunn might have a shot if she could be coaxed into coming out of retirement.

Rossi couldn't hide from social issues as a Senator. Expose his right-wing extremism and he loses.

Washington's economy is getting better, so I don't even know what he'll campaign on in 2008.

Amen on the first paragraph.

Rossi isn't the moderate he pretends to be, and Cantwell could expose him. Gregoire couldn't. If I was Rossi, I'd try for Gregoire's governorship in a few years.

Rossi may be the best candidate, but he's only competitive, not advantaged.

It's not that she couldn't expose him, it's just that he could avoid social issues running for Governor, saying that he wasn't campaigning on that. He just can't do that running for Senate.

If he ran, a vote for Rossi would be a vote for Bush.

I would guess Cantwell gets 53-55%ish.

Runs against Dunn, close but Cantwell barely wins.

Against Vance, probably around 65%...seriously

Those other losers, anywhere from 55-59%.
