From KOLD News 13 (Tucson):

Senator Jon Kyl's job performance rating drops to 42 percent from 49 percent in January.

Sixty-one percent of Arizonan's surveyed by Behavior Research Center for its Rocky Mountain Poll rate Senator McCain's overall job performance favorably. That's down from 73 percent in January.

The latest findings are from a survey of 682 Arizona adults between April 12th and April 17th.

It has a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-eight percentage points.

Hey, you never know.  Arizona has one of the largest elderly populations in the nation.  If the Democrat can use SS against Kyl, it could be close.

Hmmm.... no.  The article also puts his disapproval rating at 10%.  Not exactly an outcry to get rid of him.  Pederson can waste his money for all that I care, Kyl isn't going anywhere.

Jdlb... you're smoking crack.  Grijavala won't get any votes outside of Tuscon and Pastor (who has ethical difficulties of his own) won't get any votes outside of Phoenix.  Maybe try to learn a little about Arizona politics before you make outrageous statements like that.

Just for fun.  Lets say Napolitano decides to toss her hat into this race... How would it playout?

Well, if you understood Arizona, you'd understand what a ridiculous idea it is.  Neither Pastor or Grijavala have any appeal outside of their districts and would get destroyed and lose their safe seats in the process.  The assumed nominee is Jim Pederson who is the state party chair and has a vast personal fortune to spend on the race.  Since Queen Janet and AG Terry Goddard have their own races to run for in 2006, he's probably the only candidate who could hold Kyl under 60% maybe

Just for fun Nicksheep, I'll say Kyl defeats Queen Janet 53-45 if she decides to run for Senate instead of reelection to governor.

Well, thank you.  I'll put it in Ohio terms, saying Pastor or Grijavala would be a good challenge for Kyl would be like saying Kuchinich could take on Voinovich or DeWine for their senate seats Smiley.  I'm not an expert on Ohio, but I don't think that's going to fly far .

Don't know to much about Pastor, but Grijalva is way too far left to have a chance of beating Kyl.   I don't know that the Democrats have a candidate that could give Kyl a serious race (except Napolitano).   They didn't even try to field a sacrifical lamb in 2000.

Pastor and Grijavala are pretty similar in ideology.  Pastor isn't quite as much the socialist, but has been in trouble for some of the travel stuff.  I don't know much about Pederson's stands, he's the party chair right now, but he did make a fortune somewhere and isn't being quiet about possibly throwing his hat in there and using up some of that money.
