Well, except for all the intelligence and paramilitary units left behind. And Hezbollah, the joint puppets of *Syria* and Iran. And the 'pro-Syrian' politicans, and all the Syrian business interests, and... Wink

It's obviously a symbolic act.  Syria is stepping out before America dumps on more pressure again, giving Syria a free hand in how* and why it pulls out.

Yeah, Israelis are foreigners.  They should go back to whatever country Israelis come from.

I don't have any problem with the territory of Israel, but they are occupying the Palestinean territories and Golan Heights. They should pull out of the Palestinean areas and allow for the formation of a Palestinean state. Golan Heights is more complicated.

Sadly, from what I understand all too few Europeans (at least the elites) take your view.

Europe? I'm sorry, but there were Jews/Hebrews/Israelis what ever you wish to call them in the land of Israel/Judea long before there were ever even Muslims. Israel is the size of a coffee cup in the middle of an auditorium with regards to the Muslim nations. Why does the left appear to hate Israel so much?

All of Israel is a Palestinean territory, if you want to get technical.  Where do you think the land for Israel came from in the first place?  The whole place was called Palestine until it was partitioned by the United Nations in 1948.  That's why the Arabs have never accepted Israel, though most Arabs care nothing about the Palestineans in reality.

yes, you're right, most of the terrorist groups just use Palestine as an excuse and couldn't care less about them. Regardless, an independent Palestinean state is the only way to get any peace in that region, the only logical starting point. The current withdrawl of population from certain areas is a good start, but Palestinean independence is also neccesary. Since Arafat can't block everything anymore I would hope more progress is possible, even though I'm not at all a fan of Sharon the war criminal.

I on the left, do not hate Israel. I do however hate lots of its actions, and the current Likud government. They need to get back to the days of a true statesman like Rabin.

Unfortunately the Peres government couldn't withstand a constant barrage of suicide bombings. Those attacks were the biggest ally Likud could ever have hoped for. The two real sides to the Israel-Palestinian questions aren't the Isrealis and Palestinians but the sane people vs the warmongers. That's what I've always argued since knowing of this issue in 1998 and that's what I will always argue.
