Keep an Eye Out/Cruz Control

This week featured a flurry of activity from all the candidates. Whether it was Iowa, New Hampshire, or South Carolina, they all got bombarded by different campaigns angling to get an advantage in the race. On the Democratic side, frontrunner Hillary Clinton had a mostly quiet week of campaigning while her numerous competitors tried to outshine each other. Jerry Brown and Bernie Sanders were the most outspoken against the recent passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, while William McRaven was the Democrat who most forcefully defended the treaty. Speaking of McRaven, many insiders are beginning to point at him as a sleeper candidate whose moment might soon come, noting that his numbers have slowly but surely only ticked up in the all-important New Hampshire. Another Democrat getting attention is Joe Manchin, the West Virginia populist whose savvy campaign and aggressive media presence has only been helping him in the polls as of late. While John Kerry has been second in most polls for months, it is entirely feasible to see somebody else eclipse him and pose a direct threat to Clinton.

Meanwhile, the Republicans have been seeing some movement across the polls as of late. It turns out that the Ted Cruz surge has been genuine, for Cruz is now in second place nationally and has overcome long-time favorite Scott Walker in Iowa. Cruz so far has not changed his messaging, perhaps believing that what he is doing right now works. Still in first place nationally is Jeb Bush, who has released the most TV ads this week. Among the ads include one touting Bush's pro-life convictions, another on restoring "the twin promises of America," and one last ad attacking Walker for flip-flopping on certain issues. Walker for his part has criticized Bush for going negative and attacked the notion of a Bush dynasty controlling the White House again, although the Bush ads look to have still done some damage in the early states. Donald Trump got some flak in the media for a comment made on the campaign trail about the need to occupy Northern Mexico, although his remarks have not impacted his supporters significantly and some even found them agreeable. Not to be forgotten, Susana Martinez has organized a steady campaign in New Hampshire and Western states, and Dan Quayle's nearly-singular focus on Iowa may ultimately pay off after he was shown to enter double digits for the first time.

Excerpt from Kerry's appearance on Al Punto, in response to a question regarding the shift in U.S.-Cuban relations:  Changes have been made in Cuba over the last fifty years - real changes, changes for the good of the Cuban people. The Soviet Union no longer exists and it hasn't for nearly thirty years. There is no reason to continue to treat the people of Cuba - who are now three generations removed from the Cubans who aligned with the Soviet Union - as though there are Soviet missiles aimed at Miami. How can we expect the people of Cuba to grow, learn, and prosper if we cut them off from the outside world?

Excerpt from Kerry's address at the pot-luck at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist:  My faith has always been a major part of my life. Back in 2004, I carried a rosary, a prayer book, and a St. Christopher medal at all times. I never put those away. I still have my rosary and the St. Christopher medal in my pocket now, and my prayer book is back in the car.

Hillary Clinton-New Endorsements

Former Congressman Mike Blouin (D-IA)

It's been a long time since I was involved in Presidential politics, but Hillary's proven to me to be the candidate that can take down a Bush, Walker or Cruz.

Congresswoman Gwen Graham (D-FL)

I may not support everything Hillary says or does, but she's our best bet to break the age-old glass ceiling that afflicted women for ages, and we know she'll be competitive in Florida.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)

I love the field we have, but the reality is I love Hillary the most. People need to realize just how close she was eight years ago, and that even if she does fall behind she's not likely to fall behind.

Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-IA)

Hillary may have lost Iowa eight years ago, but this time will be different. She's got a better campaign behind her, and Iowa voters have a better understanding of her now.

Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH)

People appear to be forgetting that Hillary won here in 2008. While we don't agree on everything, we do believe that past success should lead to future performance, especially since voters here saw how close she came, and how much of a team player she's been for President Obama since.

Former New Hampshire Rep - Brown's the right choice

"What we've seen in past administrations is a complete neglect for our working men and women. This is downright criminal. Working New Hampshirites have seen enough struggle in these days, we need someone who will stand up for their interests, and those same interests across this great nation of ours. Let's be frank - Hillary won't do it. Only Jerry Brown will. That's why he has my support."

Surprise Endorsement - Clooney backs Brown

"You know, I liked seeing my friend Arnold become Governor solely because he was my friend, but we all saw what happened when someone who was unready to do the job went into to do it. Our state was wrecked by the time he left. When Jerry Brown came in, we knew, this wouldn't be on the job training. *laughter* Now my ideas don't fully align with Mr. Brown. I'm not even so sure we have a deficit problem. But Mr. Brown not only has a lot of the right ideas, but he has the right experience to implement those ideas, and he has a warriors spirit. Plus he's the only person who cares enough about high speed rail to explain it in such detail. Really made my head spin. *chuckles*"

Democrats in the California Delegation back Governor Brown

"Governor Brown has done so much for our state. Us Californians have to back his serious credentials and his ability for serious leadership. We are going to stand by him during his campaign. It's early for all of us to stand by him, but that is a testament to his many years of service to this country, and his skills to get things done on behalf of the American people."

Statement by Baldwin Campaign
After a week of struggling with an ugly case of the flu, Senator Baldwin would like to make it known to all of her supporters that both her and her campaign remain alive and well, and will be back, full speed ahead, in the coming week.

Tammy Baldwin Campaign Schedule, October 15th-21st

"In February of this year, five of my Senate colleagues and I sent a letter to the Department of Education, criticizing its failure to do the right thing when it came to utilizing its Congressionally-authorized tools to cancel out student loan debt. I stand by that position today, because it's common sense. Sucking hundreds of billions of dollars out of the pockets of our young people when there is a legal and sensible alternative available is absolutely immoral, it's bad economics, and it's just plain stupid. This is the future of our country we're talking about. How do we expect our young people to find good-paying jobs, to invent, develop, and invest in America when we won't even allow them an affordable college education? When I'm President, you can bet the Department of Education will be one that utilizes every tool it has to cancel out student loan debt for our young people!"

October 15th, 2015
-Speech in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
-Meet and Greet with Students at University of Iowa, discussing student loan debt
-Barnstorming in Iowa City, Iowa
-Barnstorming in Mount Ayr, Iowa

October 16th, 2015

QUESTION: Senator, how do you feel about the recent passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal?

BALDWIN: Well, I wasn't able to be very vocal about it right when it passed as I was ill, but make no mistake: this is a terrible deal. It's a terrible deal for workers, for the environment, for farmers, for almost everyone except the corporate bigwigs profiting off of it. Any deal negotiated in backrooms and hidden from the public eye so quietly as this one is bound to be harmful to the little guy, plain and simple.

QUESTION: Senator, you've said previously that you support expanding Social Security. Isn't it dangerous to meander around the significant problem of a broken entitlements system?

BALDWIN: Well, when I talk about my plan to expand Social Security, all I'm talking about is eliminating the cap on the payroll tax, which keeps those with incomes of over $250 grand from paying the same share into the system as everybody else. By doing this, we can keep Social Security solvent for at least the next four or five decades, while at the same time increasing benefits for seniors who have earned them. It's the fiscally and morally responsible thing to do.

-Meet and Greet in Atlantic, Iowa
-Meet and Greet in Boone, Iowa

-Appearance on Weekends with Alex Witt, discussing campaign, raising the minimum wage, and student loan debt
-Town Hall in West Des Moines, Iowa
-Meet and Greet in Des Moines, Iowa

October 18th, 2015

"Folks, mine is not a campaign built for the sole purpose of attacking. This is not a campaign against Hillary Clinton, or anybody else. What this is is a positive, issues-based campaign that is focused on policies to bring our economic recovery to those who have yet to see it in action, policies to bring about real fairness for all Americans, whether it be in the wages we earn, the benefits we receive, or the educations we strive for. Things like eliminating student loan debt, expanding Social Security, implementing equal pay for equal work -- no one else on the campaign trail is talking about these issues, yet they are so very crucial to the future of our nation and the American people. The candidates at the top of the polls feel that they'll be safe even if they ignore them. I feel differently, and that's what this campaign is all about!"

-Meet and Greet in Orange City, Iowa
-Speech in Sioux City, Iowa
-Barnstorming in Sioux City, Iowa
-Flight to Duluth, Minnesota

October 19th, 2015
-Town Hall in Duluth, Minnesota

-Meet and Greet in Minneapolis, Minnesota

October 20th, 2015
-Meet and Greet w/ Students at University of Minnesota
-Speech at University of Minnesota
-Appearance on Now with Alex Wagner, discussing campaign, student loan debt

"Here's my philosophy: if you work hard, you play by the rules, you pay your taxes, you do everything in this country that you're supposed to do, you deserve a fair wage, a wage that isn't determined by your gender. You deserve an affordable education. You deserve job security and retirement security, the promise that what you have worked so hard to build will not be stripped from you with the snap of corporate fingers. You deserve a piece of this economic recovery. We need young people like you folks right here at the University of Minnesota, we need you, the future of this nation, to stand up and fight for these ideals! I need you to join me in this race as we fight for these principles! Mine is a grassroots campaign to move this country forward, and make no mistake: it starts with you!"

Schedule for Hillary Clinton

October 15, 2015

Speech at Empire Inn Motel, Empire, Louisiana

A little over ten years ago, Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast. Unfortunately it looks like many around here simply have not learned their lesson. People like Ted Cruz, Haley Barbour, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Robert Bentley, Bill Cassidy, Pete Sessions... there's so many to name... they all oppose funding for the National Weather Service, oppose efforts to let FEMA help in disaster-struck areas, and worse, they oppose climate research, so we can better protect cities like New Orleans, Houston, Miami and New York City in the future. It's simply mind-boggling that no one seems to have learned from the mistakes made before and after Katrina, but it's exactly what is happening.

Speech at Renaissance Palace, Meraux, Louisiana

I know what your're thinking, why am I in Louisiana? I believe we can face down any opponent, from ISIS to our need to become energy independent, look it in the eye, and emerge victorious, that's why.

Meet Voters at 915 Cafe, Armstrong, Iowa (With Bruce Braley)

October 16, 2015

Speech at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, Wahpeton, Iowa (With Mike Blouin and Bruce Braley)

I can't help but wonder if there are any Republicans who believe in the existence of science. We've seen so much theology spout out of the House, and now the Senate since Republicans that I can't help but believe that opposition to science is a plank on their platform... This isn't the enlightenment..The days of Newton, Ampere, Celsius, Volta, Pascal are long gone, and yet there are Republicans that deny those advances as well... It's insane!

Visit Dickinson County Freedom Rock and Veterans Memorial (With Mike Blouin)

Speech, Co-Op Elevator Fertilizer, Harris, Iowa

Admiral McRaven recently said that getting off fossil fuels was a long-term goal. He's right, but the work starts now. We can't be off fossil fuels in 2100 if we don't start the process today.

Speech at Osceola Community Hospital, Sibley, Iowa

Obamacare is not perfect, but it's lightyears ahead of where we were before, and continued Republican attempts border on criminal, especially when you realize they won't replace it-with anything.

October 17, 2015

Tour DeBoer Grocery Museum and Little House Museum, Ashton, Iowa (With Bruce Braley and Leon Panetta)

Meet Voters, Doon Park, Doon, Iowa

Meet Voters, Lyon County Fairgrounds, Rock Rapids, Iowa

Interview with Anshel Pfeffer for Haaretz

Some have deemed President Obama's Middle East policy, the most Anti-Israel ever. Exactly what is your opinion?
The reality is, while Israel is a very important ally in the region, they're not the only ones. When we have a crisis in the Middle East, we now have to deal with what Jordan wants, what Egypt wants, what Turkey wants, and of course what Israel wants. Making sure no one gets upset is like walking on a tripwire.
What are your feelings about continued negotiations with Iran?
The reality is the Iranians have listened to everything we've said to this point... But I'd feel more comfortable if a final deal had their energy being produced outside of Iran... I understand there are nice spots in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan or Armenia to use if the Iranians wished to negotiate with them.

october 18, 2015

Meet Voters in Matlock, Iowa

Meet Voters, Hawarden Steak House, Hawarden, Iowa

Visit- Hope Haven Inc. Westview Home, Rock Valley, Iowa

Meet Voters, L&M Enterprises, Alton, Iowa

February 18, 2015

Meet Voters at Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital

Meet Voters in Candia, New Hampshire

Meet Voters at Hilltop Fun Center, Somersworth, New Hampshire

October, 19, 2015

Speech at Museum of Military History, Kissimmee, Florida

Right down the road from here is a theme park called Machine Gun America, where they let people as young as thirteen shoot automatic weaponry. This kind of behavior twists our 2nd amendment into something it isn't-something that's been distorted from "militia and armies" to "everyone and their mother". That's the problem here.

Tammy Baldwin Ad: Fair Shot
Running in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Minnesota

"Hi, I'm Tammy Baldwin. For me, my American Dream was to make a real difference for the folks I grew up with, hard-working people who labored tirelessly to put food on the table every night for themselves and their families. There's over 300 million people in this country, and every one of us deserve an American Dream of our own."

Screen changes to images of college students in classroom.

"That's why if I'm President, the Department of Education will make good use of the tools it's already been given to eliminate student loans for our young people."

Screen changes to images of workers in factories, small businesses, etc.

"We'll raise our minimum wage to lift millions out of poverty, put an end to job outsourcing, and invest in jobs in manufacturing, infrastructure, and renewable energy."

Screen changes to elderly couple sitting together on porch while children play below.

"And we'll expand -- not cut, Social Security. You deserve the benefits you work for, simple as that."

Screen changes back to Baldwin.

"At the end of the day, I believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, you deserve a fair shot at your American Dream. Join me, and let's make that dream a reality."

Susana Martinez for President
Schedule for the week of October 15-21th:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 15th
-Meet and Greet in Winchester, New Hampshire
-Town Hall in Pembroke, New Hampshire
-Rally in Concord, New Hampshire
-Visit to GE Aviation Plant in Hooksett, New Hampshire to chat with workers
-Dinner with officials of the Coos County Republican Party

During the Rally in Concord:

Really, it's a shame that we've barely heard an utterance on what is clearly a monumental challenge to this country today. There has been a clear air of indifference during this campaign so far how we can final curtail this country's outrageous spending habits. Washington would love nothing more than for us to forget, that while they've sworn up and down to  finally get our finances in order, they've done nothing but continue to vote for the status quo of unsustainable deficits. President Obama hasn't helped either with his unbalanced fairy land budgets doing nothing but increasing the tax burden on hard working Americans. He's doing it not to bring our spending under control though, only to find a way to pay for more unwieldy and inefficient government programs. A budget that is balanced and fair to all citizens of this country is something that I have already begun discussing with the best economic minds in this country and is something which I hope to submit to congress upon reaching the oval office. Mark my words, the only unbalanced budget I might propose will be one where we take in more than we pay out.

 Friday, October 16th
-Meet and Greet in Tuftonboro, New Hampshire
Town Hall in Tilton, New Hampshire
-Rally in Amherst, New Hampshire
Visit to Campaign office in Manchester, New Hampshire
-Attendance at local high school football game
-Bus trip to Maine

Saturday, October 17th
-Meet and Greet in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine with Sen. Susan Collins
-Rally in Skowhagen, Maine with Sen. Susan Collins
Lunch Fundraiser for Washington County Republican Party in Maine
-Rally in Portland, Maine
-Meeting and Photo Op with Maine Coast Fisherman’s Association
-Flight to Colorado

-Sen Susan Collins:

My entire career has been spent giving my all for the state of Maine, doing what I though was right no matter the cost. More of the attitude is needed in Washington and let me tell you, Susana Martinez has that fight in her. She’s done it in New Mexico and there is no doubt in my mind that she will translate her thankless endeavors for the people of New Mexico from the halls of Santa Fe to the situation room of the White House.

Sunday, October 18th
-Morning breakfast and remarks to the College Republicans at the University of Denver
-Appearance on Meet the Press from the University of Denver
-Rally in Loveland, Colorado
-Town Hall in Burlington, Colorado
-Rally in Aurora, Colorado
-Flight to Nevada

Martinez remarks to the College Republicans of the University of Denver:

Sincerely, it is an honor to be speaking to what truly is the future of the Republican Party. We always hear that Democrats hold an edge in the youth vote but seeing I know that the reality is that with such strong organization here and across the country thanks to the work of young men and women like you, Democrats stand no chance. As you know, improving our education system, including increasing access to higher education is a major plank of my triad for the future and that starts with improving oversight of the college loan program. As I’m sure you’ve seen, the federal student loan portfolio showed a budget shortfall of almost 22 billion dollars last year. I don’t think the government should be making money off the back of students. An investment in the education of our students is enough of a positive for this country. However, I do think that losing money on a program that should be breaking even is a disaster than should be remedied. Finding a way to better manage this program so we don’t end up losing so much is a policy which I fully support and one I know each and every one of you agrees with as conservatives.

Monday, October 19th
-Rally in Yerington, Nevada with Gov. Brian Sandoval
Town Hall in Ely, Nevada
-Meeting with Nevada Reps. Cresent Hardy, Mark Amodei, and Joe Heck
-Rally in Winnemucca, Nevada
Speech at Nevada State College

Martinez during the rally in Yerington:

Any plan for the United States with an eye on the future involves charting out a comprehensive approach to satiating its ever growing energy needs. Like many others, I believe fully in a diverse array of options to get that done. Our first step is finally opening up new areas for drilling here in the United States and off our shores to ensure great energy independence. The Obama administration has already demonstrated its indifference to his former goal with his inaction on the Keystone XL Pipeline and his inconsistent policy towards offshore drilling. You won’t get anything but decisiveness from a Martinez administration as we seek to keep prices at the pump low and our dependence on foreign energy at a minimum. That of course, does entail investment in all energy sources including wind, solar, nuclear and hydroelectric to help diversify our energy portfolio. Like any smart investor, we can’t afford to put all of our eggs in one basket. What goes with that though, is proper management to avoid money sinks like Solyndra and instead supporting companies that have demonstrated fiscal responsibility and a vision for their energy program.

 Tuesday, October 20th
-Meet and Greet in Tonopah, Nevada with Gov. Brian Sandoval

Ladies and Gentlemen, what I am about to tell you won’t really be a shock to many of you. Hillary Clinton will not be the first woman that is President of the United States.  No, that title belongs to a woman who is looking decades ahead, not decades behind. This is a woman who breaks the mold of what every critic might say about the Republican Party, and she is masterfully planning this country’s return to conservatism as soon as the liberal disaster that is Barack Obama’s presidency comes to a close. Ladies and Gentleman, Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico!

Jerry Brown for President 2016 - The New Hampshire Tour!

"New Hampshire has a history of rewarding those who will work hard enough to win its primary. In my past campaigns, I've made the mistake of not putting forth the serious hand shaking that a Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter would do, and that came to bite me later on in my campaign. That's a mistake I won't be making this time around. Californians know I'm an old work horse who won't quit, no matter what anyone says, and I will fight for your best interest, not the best interest of those in Washington. I hope you come to learn that about me too in this great state."

Local New Hampshire News

Reporter - "Governor Brown, let's start this interview by addressing the elephant in the room - your age. If you won election, you would be easily the oldest president ever to win election. Can you sooth our concerns about your health, and do you think you could handle the rigors of the Presidency at your age."

Brown - "I'll give you one thing - I'm not as spry as I used to be. But let me tell, with age I've gotten even more vigilant about the issues I care about. And that's the bottom line of this race. It's not about who is the youngest hot shot who can slick talk their way to the White House, it's about real knowledge on the concrete issues that face America, a strong background in solving some of those issues, and a good moral character that sets yourself as a role model for this country, and I believe possess all three."

Reporter - "Well let's get to those issues then, Governor. One of the issues is immigration. Do you agree with Presidents executive action on immigration, and would've you gone even farther, or done less?"

Brown - "I agree with the President, but if you ask me, he hasn't used the bully pulpit enough to fight for true immigration reform. My plan, which I think would fix all of the problems our current system has, is to grant a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are currently here. The crux of the problem that is left, the fact that we will still have people coming in in this manner, is one of incentive rather than one of a lack of border security. And those incentives come from one area - businesses. Now I don't want to over-regulate businesses, but in order to make sure those who have put forward their effort to come to this country legally, we must crack down on companies that hire illegal immigrants. Now we can tighten that enforcement in a couple of ways, but one way is streamlining the farm subsidy program and calling for harsher restrictions on companies that take advantage of workers. Another is limiting these EB5 programs that intend for good but ultimately leave us with a lot of workers who are in pilot programs that are being taken advantage of. I want everyone in America to be playing by the same rules, so that we get the best possible outcomes for everyone. That is my plan."

Reporter - "And finally, William McRaven gave you a scalding comeback to your press conference on the TPP agreement. What do you say to Admiral McRaven and do you stand by your position on this issue?"

Brown - "Admiral McRaven has served this country admirably, and I respect his service to this country. That being said, I feel he glorifies this agreement without getting down to the thick of it. On privacy, on banking regulation, on big pharma, it's a giveaway to everything the biggest companies want, while promising bigger wages and more jobs later. We saw with NAFTA and plenty of other of the trade agreements we've made - the jobs don't come, and certainly the wages will decrease. The American worker faces enough problems without this added on to it."

Reporter - "There you have it, Governor Jerry Brown of California, now a candidate for President."

Brown - "Thank you Sean, it's been a pleasure."

"Some of these candidates weren't even born when I was trying to get alternative resources to Oil and Gas. Many people thought I was crazy, and well, maybe I am *chuckles*. But as President, I will introduce a broad package of reform to make sure we have the right resources for the future. That means subsidies for wind power and solar power, that means growing R&D so that we can find new, even better renewable sources, that means making sure polluters pay, that also means ridding our tax code of subsidies that give oil companies the advantage. We have begun to become an energy independent nation, I plan on making us the model for the rest of the world toward a more reliable and environmentally safe energy portfolio. We gotta do it, because if we don't, imagine us deep underwater fairly soon. And I don't know about you, but I'm not a good swimmer! *audience laughs*"

Jerry Brown Ad - Another 15
Ad airs in Iowa and New Hampshire only

"Another 15 seconds? Alright, here we go...

I ran for President to talk about the issues, not dodge them. We need a pathway to citizenship, fair trade policies, a safe environment, and fair wages. I have plans on all of these issues. I want to make sure our next generation of Americans have the same opportunities we do today. And I want to do so without taking corporate money, so I'm responsible to you. Share this message with your friends, because that's the only way we can win this race.

I'm Jerry Brown, I approve this message because a little time is just enough for me. Whew!"

Kerry Ad

Family Matters

John Kerry - Secretary of State, Senator, Lieutenant Governor, Veteran, Attorney. But more importantly, he's a husband, a father, and a grandfather.

No matter what he did in life, John Kerry has never forgot his roots and his family. His father, Richard, came from a middle-class family. John Kerry's grandfather was an immigrant from Austria who made shoes for a living. Richard instilled in John the importance of hard work, that he himself learned from his father.

2016, an important election for hard working, Middle Class Americans. Isn't it time to elect a President who knows what the Middle Class is about?

Paid for by the committee to elect John Kerry President.

"My fellow Republicans, it has come to my attention that a few of my fellows have begun attacking each other. This kind of behavior will get us nowhere and cannot be tolerated. If we look back to the past we can easily see that the practice of scorched earth politics has only increased partisanship in our great nation. And it has also lead to weak Republican Nominees.

A great man and an even greater leader put forth the 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not speak I'll of any fellow Republican. That was President Ronald Reagan, and following that rule he won the largest electoral landslides in US history. If all you can do is knockdown your competitors you have no place in this race. We need ideas. We need leadership. We need bold vision.

We get it. Political dynasties are bad. Flip-flopping is wrong. But there's got to be more than just beating each other over the head with these attacks. Train your fire on the true opposition: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and the Democratic Party. If we can show the American people the folly of their policies, it won't matter what your last name is or if you've changed your position on immigration. As long as you've got an "R" next to your name then you'll have the support needed to get to 270.

We are One Party. We are One Nation. We are One People. All of us pledging allegiance to the Stars and Stripes, all of us defending the Constitution. We are Republicans. And it's darn time we started acting like it"

Does anyone know what the ruling in King Vs. Burwell was for the purposes of the this game?

It's a 5-4 ruling in favor of upholding the subsidies.

"What we need is a minimum wage that our workers can actually survive on. Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for aligning themselves against so many Americans working hard and yet not earning enough to live on. Even worse, the Koch brothers and other far-right extremists aren't happy with preventing a raise for so many, they're dead set on eliminating the minimum wage all together, because they believe in an America where corporations can exploit their employees as much as they like, if they can smell corporate profit. As President I will stand up to the far-right fringe that has sadly taken over Congress and fight for a living wage."

Saturday, October 17th, 2015
- Barnstorm in Pembroke, NH
- Meet and Greet in Swanzey, NH
- Town Hall in Pymouth, NH
- Town Hall in Hopkinton, NH

"For years I have defended our seniors from Republican attempts to gut Social Security, because I believe that everyone deserves an economically stable retirement. What we must do is not slash the benefits that so many depend on for survival, but lift the payroll tax cap because right now, someone earning $117 thousand pays the same payroll tax rate as someone earning $17 million. If you lift the cap, we're solvent for 75 years and we can have a well needed increase in benefits for those still struggling to have a stable retirement after working so many years so that future generations could prosper."

Monday, October 19th, 2015
Appearance on local Iowa radio

- Rally in Muscatine, IA (with Bruce Springsteen)
- Flight to Washington, DC

"I quite like Bruce's song Death to My Hometown as it tells the story of so many communities across our country who fell victim to the greedy crooks on Wall Street. Their reckless actions directly led to the suffering of millions and what was their punishment? A slap on the wrist. Those behemoth banks are now bigger than ever and making the same careless gambles that harmed so many of us in 2008 because they understand that no matter how many lives that ruin, they can always secure a bailout if times get tough. We need to end this economic hostage taking and break up the humongous banks. If you're too big too fail, you're too big to exist."

Susana Martinez Ad: Looking beyond tomorrow
To run in Nevada, Colorado, New Hampshire, and Maine
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Picture of Martinez speaking on what looks to be a ranch in an arid area

Howdy, I'm Susana Martinez, and I'm running to be your next President. Stand out. That's always what I've been told when running for office, be it for governor of New Mexico or President of the United States. Now saying you want to stand out is one thing, but doing it is another animal. It really took me a while but the way to stand out truly has been staring me in the face the whole time. Compared to every other candidate, Republican or Democrat, I think I truly am the one looking to the future of our children and that of their children. Looking beyond tomorrow if you will. How am I doing that you may ask?

Cut to children playing on a playground

I've already started working on a reform to our system of education,  to give every single child an education this country can be proud of.

Switch to a video of blue collar workers clocking in to work

I support a comprehensive overhaul to our flawed immigration system, because immigration and immigrants are a key part of what keeps this economy running.

Video of the debt clock running up

Looking ahead, I know that we have to get our spending under control so we don't continue saddling our future generations with debt. Balancing the federal budget will be a major goal of mine in office.

Picture of a pipeline and other pictures of wind, solar, etc.

Our appetite will only increase in the future, so devising a blueprint outlining how we will deal with energy needs tomorrow and beyond is something I vow to do.

Back to Martinez on the ranch.

Investing in our future really is common sense. And as your President, I'll do that and more. I'm Susana Martinez and I approve this message.

Speech in Beaufort, SC on military readiness

Now, I know that, in the Democratic primary, what you most want to hear is which one of us is the best leader of the Democratic Party - who among us has the message and leadership to lead us in Virginia. And I’ll be talking about that too, but before I do, I’d like to address an ad that Governor Bush, on the Republican side, has been running in several early states. I know you’ve seen it - he’s talking about the ‘promises of America’. Specifically, in that ad, he claims that President Obama has jeopardized this nation’s security by being a weak commander-in-chief. And, folks, that’s a load of bull.

That’s the advantage I have over anyone on the Democratic side of the aisle - when a Republican candidate says something so ludicrous as claiming that Obama has jeopardized national security, I can stand there on the debate stage and say, “As an Admiral of the United States Navy, I know a fair bit more about our military readiness than someone who hasn’t been in any sort of elected office for a decade, and I know that Obama has been a perfectly fine leader for our military - because I was there.” I was honored this week to be endorsed by Governor Mike Beebe of Arkansas, Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania, and Senator Jim Webb of Virginia - all three served in the armed forces, Senator Webb serving as Ronald Reagan’s Navy Secretary, and they’re standing with me because they know what Jeb’s saying just isn’t true, that the Democratic Party stands for a strong national defense. And it’s true, isn’t it? Ask yourself: is the United States safer than it was eight years ago? Well, there’s a whole host of foreign policy achievements of this administration - normalizing relations with Cuba, reforms in Myanmar - and obviously Secretary Kerry and Secretary Clinton had a hand in both of them. But the one I was involved in, and the one I think is the biggest accomplishment of this administration, is that we finally killed Osama bin Laden. This administration is the one that resulted in the death of the man responsible for 9/11. It’s difficult to think of a more impactful military success.

But back to the bigger point, the US military is not weak. Obama has not endangered American national security. We spend more than the next dozen or so countries combined. In terms of military equipment, we have around ten times what the Chinese have. There’s actually no historical precedent for a nation with the size of our nation being allied with so many of the world’s largest economies. Over 40% of the world’s economy is controlled by just five nations - us, Japan, Germany, France, and the UK. That’s us and four of our closest allies, coming close to controlling half the world’s GDP. That’s pretty damn impressive. Our navy, in terms of fleet tonnage, is larger than the next thirteen largest navies combined - and also controls the second-largest air force in the world, second only to the United States Air Force. The fifth-most-powerful air force, incidentally, would be a single American aircraft carrier. And we’ve got eleven. The M1 Abrams tank has seen more combat than just about any other tank on the battlefield, and has never - ever! - been completely disabled by enemy fire. China has around 500 of their tanks - sounds scary, right? But theirs aren’t as good as ours, and they have 500? We’ve got over 8,000. There’s 8,400 attack helicopters in the world, and we own 6,400 of them. Any nation attempting to fight us in a conventional war would be like a toddler trying to fight Muhammad Ali - they’re just not going to win. And, speaking as a retired Admiral, that’s just the stuff they tell you about.

So, then, what will I do to the military budget? Well, I’m no Bernie Sanders or anything - I’m not going to cut it to the bone. As President, I will maintain a US military capable of addressing any possible threat. But it’s true that our military budget is outdated, and personally, I blame a lot of that on Congress. They regularly give the military more money than we actually request, to pay for pet projects in their districts. Fact is, we can safely reduce the military budget, actually increasing it in some areas, and save billions while still maintaining our status in the world. A destroyer with an Aegis missile defense system can fight just as well as a Littoral Combat Ship or an old cruiser, for example, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper. We don’t need as many F-35s as we’re buying, either, since that money could be spent investing in new UAVs or improving FA-18s. We can reduce our end strengths too, since we don’t need as many ground forces anymore with Afghanistan over - that’s money that can be redirected to invest in more special forces, as well as investing in breakthrough technologies. There’s a report out by David Barno, he’s a Lt. Gen., that explains how we can do this and save hundreds of billions without really impacting how our forces are performing at all.

We face a new reality in the 21st century, and we need to adapt to that reality. We’re not going to be fighting a tank battle in Europe, and we’re not going to have any major air superiority battles either. No American soldier has been killed on the ground by an enemy aircraft since 1953. What we need to do in terms of our military spending is shrink the things we don’t need and won’t use anyway, the stuff that’s just being kept around to help Congressmen get re-elected. We can reduce that, save some money, and reinvest the rest in the stuff that we really do need, which is more special forces and new technologies. We need a strong national defense, but the way we do that isn’t just by throwing money at anything that moves - it’s through making smart choices, that preserve both our national and our financial security.

Speech in Des Moines, Iowa on energy security

Energy is an issue near and dear to my heart, because when you get down to it, it’s a national security issue too. Secretary Clinton and I have been talking about this recently, whether we need to pursue fossil fuels or renewable energies right now. In light of that, I’d like to speak more on my plan for our nation’s energy supply and what we’ll do.

In the long term, it’s necessary to pursue renewable energies, and as President I plan to support efforts to increase our renewable power usage. My inspiration for this sort of plan is Japan - Japan used to be totally dependent on imported oil, and some historians actually speculate that a big pressure that forced Japan into World War II was a need for more oil sources. But they started using more gas, more nuclear power, and invested really heavily into mass transit, and they’re now incredibly energy secure. Not only does having diverse energy sources reduce the impact of the loss of any single one on our nation, but using energy sources like geothermal and ethanol and wind and solar also means that power is coming from multiple diverse sources, essentially reducing to zero the risk any attack on our energy grid would pose. Energy gets more diverse in its points of generation, which means that even if one gets knocked out in a natural disaster then you can more easily get power. And hey - I didn’t even mention global warming in that! Renewable energy is the right thing to do for the climate, but more importantly, it’s the right choice for a secure energy supply.

But what we also need is an all of the above energy supply, and that necessitates exploring our own domestic fossil fuel resources. Oil, as we’ve all experienced, is vulnerable to price shifts based on a number of factors, most of which aren’t under our control. That sort of economic uncertainty isn’t good - but increasing global supply by pumping up our domestic production not just means we’ll be less vulnerable to a total end of supply like we saw in 1973, but also means prices will be more stable. It’s simple supply and demand - with more diverse suppliers, the impact of any one supplier is reduced. So when we develop our oil supplies, what we’re saying to the American people is that your gas will not just be cheaper, it’ll be more likely to stay that way. Natural gas is the same way, with the additional bonus that it can be exported to nations in Europe to help reduce their dependence on Russian gas.

My energy policy is ultimately a pretty fair solution, in that it’s fair to all the options. We should invest heavily in renewables, absolutely. We should also consider developing our fossil fuel resources, because they’re a valuable resource as well. We have several options - and pursuing all of them is what we need to do if we want to see the benefits that all of those options can provide.

This week, Admiral McRaven campaigned in coastal South Carolina and the Des Moines metro area, opening campaign offices in Des Moines and Charleston as part of an initial push into those two early states.
