The mother country, hands down.  Hopefully, in the fullness of time, India will join the roster as the largest democracy allied with the world's oldest democracy.

Why do the Thai see Cambodia as a threat? Is this related to some Khmer Rouge legacy?

The two have an ongoing border dispute:

In actuality, the first country to recognize American independence was Morocco. France was the first country to send aid in the ARW, however (which it even did prior to formal recognition).

Greatest ally in the US seems to mean whoever obeys on matters of foreign policy/wars the most.

Canada with the UK a close second.  Japan and Australia tied at a distant third.  Everybody else lower and with a lot more change in the order, sometimes changing rapidly.
