True, but I don't know why anyone would care about quantity, that's my point.

most message boards keep a little tally near the username, like ours does, some people obviously care.

You're not wrong, it's just impossible to measure.

It matters with a quality poster, yes. If the majority of someone's posts are great, then the number of posts matters, but certainly posting a lot of posts of questionable quality, and may be posting a lot to be more visible, could be a negative thing; therefore the distinction is an important one. This thread seems to imply that I should be impressed with someone just because they are leading in number of posts. It seems that it is somehow some sort of competition, so making a distinction between quality and quantity isn't entirely off-topic.

when I first got here, mid to late 2007, there were threads JUST to post pad.  They even acknowledged it.  It was gross.

Also, the number of posts per today is of more interest to me than the total.
BRTD has been posting here a long time, but there may be other posters who have a higher average.

No, that isn't my intention.  I'm just a stats nerd, and think the long term trends on who is or isn't posting is interesting.  I make no moral judgments about whether being at the top of the list is good or bad.  Some have even suggested that by pointing out how often they're posting, I'm shaming them.  Tongue

Yes, I think that a lot of people here are interested in so called nerdy things like percentages and stats and other kinds of numbers. Maps of states would be interesting even if there were no electoral college. Elections are predicted by how certain counties vote, so stats are important in predicting elections. The fact that certain states are bell weathers helps as well.

(there are posters who like to point out when they reach a certain number of posts, of course)

Seems like Atlas is on track for another record month in a non-presidential year. I'd say there is a 99% of hitting 58,000+, 70% chance of hitting 59,000 posts and a 40% of hitting > 60,000.

I wonder if we can use activity levels on Atlas to predict midterm turnout. If you use the total posts per year, 2010 definitely had a surge at the beginning but it receded midway through. 2014 was low the entire year. 2018 has been off the charts since January 2017, with it intensifying bigly starting in Jan 2018 and all the way through today. Atlas's 2018 activity levels definitely foreshadowed this high-turnout midterm Tongue

I believe we've now broken a forum record, by having three consecutive months with 50,000+ posts.  That didn't even happen in 2016.

This month has ended up having the second highest number of posts in forum history (first would be Oct. 2016, the final month of the '16 campaign).

And once again, we finished the month with the 2nd highest number of posts in forum history (after Oct. 2016).  Those two months (Oct. 2016 and Nov. 2018) are the only two months in forum history to have broken 60,000, and we're up 57% in activity compared to the same month four years ago.

My posting rate has slowed down enough now that Torie has passed me again.  Maybe he will make it to the top 10 some day.  We'll see.

Looks like I passed Torie again, since he seems to have left the forum (not having logged in for several weeks now).  Also, I think it's his birthday.
