Miles has a lot of southern crossover support, while the democratic ticket is massively disliked in swing areas and even many light blue areas, causing some pretty interesting results:

In the house, only 2 state delegations support the democratic ticket in the end. The rest of the democratic majority state delegations support the independent ticket along with a coalition of some of the more moderate republican congressional delegations. Six weeks of floor debates later, and Miles is chosen on a 26 I - 22 R - 2 D vote.
Mary Landrieu is chosen as vice president by the senate on a 56 I - 39 R - 5 D Vote.
