richard nixon falls in the republican primary.  republicans nominate progressive massachusetts governor john volpe.  volpe picks george romney of michigan as his running mate.



volpe/romney (R): 361
wallace (I): 111
humphrey/muskie(D): 66

with both major party candidates being pro-civil rights, wallace would have increased his percentages in the south and border states.

In 1968, after 8 years of Democrats in the White House, with the Vietnam war raging, America was in the mood for change.

The election would still have been close, this is how I see it
