My parents never talked politics much. My maternal grandmother died before I was born and I have no idea how she voted.

My maternal grandfather liked Carter in '76; he was hospitalized and couldn't vote, so he asked my mom to vote for Carter on his behalf, and she did (even though she preferred Ford).

My paternal grandfather fought Nazis.

My paternal grandmother lived to 2016, and I never recall her having much good to say about any politician. I'll go out on a limb and say she probably voted Nixon in '72.

My Grandmother

1950... - 2014: CVP & CD&V (christian democrat)
2019: PVDA (marxist)

She dislikes Green, social democrats, liberals & far-right.

Grandfather died in 1990, but voted CVP his entire life

Real grandmother & granddad:
Probably far-left and/or far-right their entire life.

Grandmom & Grandmom from foster mom's side:

I don't know

Granddad & Grandmom from father's side:
I don't know, probably right-leaning granddad, and no clue about grandmom.

I don’t know much about how my mum’s parents voted. My dad’s dad (1923-1980) was a staunch German Social Democrat, as is my dad’s mum (1938-), who has also voted Green in some state races recently. Their politics was heavily influenced by the very egalitarian brand of Lutheranism they practise/practised.

Grandfather: Born in 1929. Died in 2010. Voted Republican from when he turned voting age through 1976. Voted for Anderson in 1980 and left the top of his ballot blank in 1984. Voted for Bush in 1988 and 1992. Voted Democratic from 1996 until he died.

Grandmother: Born in 1934. Died in 2011. Voted Democratic her whole life.

Paternal grandparents were both natural-born citizens & were straight-ticket Democrats from 1944 to 1976 (grandmother) & 2004 (grandfather), respectively.

Maternal grandmother fled Cuba in the '50s & - upon becoming a citizen - chose to be a Republican because it had been a Democrat (Kennedy) who f**ked up the Bay of Pigs. She ended up voting for only 2 Democrats in her lifetime: Obama 2008 & Hillary 2016.

No clue about my maternal grandfather, he left my mom's family when she was a kid & died long before I was even born.

Maternal Grandmother: Ancestral Catholic Democrat who voted D from 1960-1984, but since 1988 has voted R due to abortion and social issues.

Maternal Grandfather: Straight R since 1960, as far as I know.

Paternal Grandmother: Don't know since she died when I was very young, but assume she would be similar to my paternal grandfather.

Paternal Grandfather: Progressive Party candidate in 1952, straight D since 1956. Would've voted for Henry Wallace in 1948, but one year too young.

Since other people outside the US are doing this...never really discussed much politics with them, but with one side being from working class Glasgow and the other from a mining family in the Welsh valleys I would be absolutely shocked if it was anything other than down the line Labour for all four of them from the early 50s until 2015 at the earliest. After that, it's possible but doubtful that my paternal grandmother now votes SNP (most of the rest of that side of the family does now but she's old), and it's possible that my maternal grandfather voted Tory/UKIP/Brexit Party over Brexit. Went to his grave claiming Barbara Castle was the best PM this country never had so not sure.

Im not sure of their exact voting patterns, but my grandpa is a somewhat Conservative Democrat. Although he’s always voted straight D, he’s a fan of more moderate Ds. Biden was his first choice. My grandma is a registered independent, although she has voted for every Republican since Ford in 1976. However she’s voting for Biden this year.

Both of my Grandparents were first eligible to vote in 1964. So I’d say- Grandma: Pre-1976 probably voted for Johnson 64, didn’t vote in 68 or 72 (doesn’t like Nixon)
1976- Ford
1980-Reagan
1984-Reagan
1988-Bush
1992-Bush
1996-Dole
2000-Bush
2004-Bush
2008-McCain
2012-Romney
2016-Trump
2020-Biden

Grandpa- Democrat in all elections except maybe 1972

Never talked politics with my dad's parents so don't know. I personally doubt my grandmother ever voted though and my grandfather was a union machinist but viewed the union with some contempt in his late life for being short-sighted in their actions.

My mom's parents were a farmer family. Solidly Democrat up to a certain point and then became Republican. "FDR Democrats" to use a local Indiana phrase I'd heard recently would seem to best describe them. First person my grandpa ever voted for president was Adlai Stevenson he told me.

Heard a funny story once of my grandpa going to vote with his mother who by this point was up there in years, this would've been 1980s or so. He marked to vote in the Republican primary and his mother tried to erase it for him to instead vote in the Democrat.

Don't know the specifics, but:

Maternal Grandmother (1937-2011): Lifelong Democrat, would still be a Democrat

Maternal Grandfather (1935-2010): Lifelong Democrat, would still be a Democrat

Paternal Grandfather (1927-1999): Democrat until 1980, when he flipped to Reagan--remained a Democrat downballot. Flipped back for Clinton. Hard to project his views into the present, but may have flipped to the Republicans for good in the last 10-15 years.

Paternal Grandmother (1927-1992): Lifelong Democrat, may have voted for Reagan. Didn't ever meet her and I don't think she was too political--so hard to project her views now.

Three of my grandparents were not Americans so they're N/A

Paternal grandmother grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Canada in 1960s, but she kept her American citizenship. I'm not sure if she voted while living in Canada but I know she was a lifelong supporter of Republicans.  Passed in 2014.

EDIT for Canadian grandparents, as I see other international folks posting..

Paternal grandfather: conservative

Maternal grandparents: NDP

I'm almost 100% sure that my grandparents (all 4 born in the 1920s) voted for the ÖVP after 1945.

My great-grandparents (born around 1900) probably for the CS(P).

The area around here had a strong ÖVP/CS(P) lean back then (and still has).

It's extremely unlikely that they voted for the DNSAP (Nazis), the Greater-Germany parties or the Socialists (SDAP), because they were all farmers.

And farmers at the time almost never voted for the Nazis, just like urban voters. It was mostly the craftspeople that voted Nazi (and still do).

Dad's side: pretty consistently Republican. They weren't necessarily hardcore conservatives but held fairly generic moderate-to-conservative views, which would make sense for middle class people living in south suburbs of Chicago.

Mom's side: part of the Independence Generation, they were staunch Congress supporters for all their lives until the TMC became a viable alternative. My grandmother (only one still alive) is a bit critical of of them but admits that they've really improved a lot of the municipal services and made a difference in her daily life compared to the Communists running the state into the ground, so she seems willing to accept the unsavory parts as well. I remember the rolling blackouts and huge trash heaps on the streets visiting India as recently as 2011 and the difference is night and day compared to today, so I have to agree with her on this.

Grandfather on my dad's side was a WW2 vet and major FDR supporter.

Grandmother on my dad's side is still alive, and remains a staunch Democrat to this day. She claims to have NEVER voted for a Republican.

Mother's side is different. My grandfather there is younger and as far as I can tell has been a Republican all his life, albeit a populist-leaning one; all I know for sure is he supported Ross Perot and Trump. My grandmother on my mother's side seems highly apolitical, but I imagine she probably just votes for whoever my grandfather tells her to. Her parents, however, were staunch Democrats according to my mother.

Paternal Grandfather:

1948: Truman
1952: Stevenson
1956: Unsure, he was an Irish-Catholic from Rhode Island and a lifelong Democrat but not particularly political and a WWII vet so may have just gone with Ike when he was a popular incumbent
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Humphrey
1972: McGovern (probably, always hated Nixon but wasn't exactly fond of counter-culture either)
1976: Carter
1980: Carter
1984: Mondale
1988: Dukakis
1992: Clinton

Paternal Grandmother: Same i'm guessing, just extend Democratic streak to 2020

Maternal Grandfather

1944: Roosevelt (Was in army though so may not have gotten a chance to vote)
1948: Dewey (Was a Democrat but claimed he thought they'd been in power too long at this point)
1952: Eisenhower (see above)
1956: Eisenhower
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Humphrey
1972: Nixon
1976: Ford (Became more conservative at this point, probably because he was making good money)
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Bush
1996: Dole
2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: McCain

Maternal Grandmother

Straight D 1956-2016 I think

I believe they were both New Deal Democrats, although my grandparents (grandfather in particular) was active in their Catholic church when they were alive so I assume they were pro-life. I Don't know how they would've voted in the elections since they passed away, but I have a feeling they would not have voted for Trump, even though they might not agree with the Dems on some social issues.

Maternal grandfather (born 1910s, died in 93) - briefly a card-carrying socialist; voted for FDR, Adlai Stevenson, JFK (and Bobby/Ted in primaries) and John B. Anderson. Nonvoter for rest of his life.

Maternal grandmother (born 1920s, died in 2003) - She liked Catholics and Illinois politicians more than she had any specific ideology. Voted for Stevenson, all three Kennedys, and Anderson. Nonvoter rest of her life.

Paternal grandfather (born 1920s, died in 95) - Conservative Democrat. Big supporter of the Daley machine in Chicago. Voted straight D every year except for the Eisenhower years. I think he abstained when McGovern was on the ticket; he hated Nixon but talked way more $h!t about hippies.

Paternal grandmother (born 1930s, died in 2016) - Less political than her husband but more outwardly racist. She didn't vote every year, but she voted straight D when she did. I was pleasantly surprised when she voted for Obama 08 given her racism, but she was pretty senile by that point and Illinois bias helped sway her. She liked Bush in 04 because of 9/11 paranoia but I don't think she actually voted.
