Western liberalism is remarkably hypocritical on the whole free speech thing.

Indeed, what a terrible behaviour by non-white Justice Minister.

Threats of violence are illegal and condoning terrorism against your country is treason.

Depending on the details I can understand the latter two, but how could you possibly consider it appropriate to jail someone for mocking a dead police officer or imprison someone for four years for mocking a police officer?

The drunk driver provoked an accident where he injured a man and his 12 years old daughter, while he was already sentenced in the past for driving under influence and more small offences. Then he resisted the policemen who tried to caught him and told them that he hoped more people like the Kouachi brothers would avenge him.

I don't know much about Dieudonné except that he is obsessed about Jews, and I don't know what he said or did this time so I can't really comment. Edit: Apparently he posted on Facebook "Je suis Charlie Coulibaly".

There's saying "Your religion is stupid" and then there's saying "Your religion is stupid and you should die because of it".

"Je me sens Charlie Coulibally", to be exact, which is very difficult to construct as any sort of meaningful statement. It's utterly ridiculous that in France you now can expect to be dragged in front of a judge for posting things like this on Facebook, of all places.

No and it's because of such laissez-faire by authorities in past than terrorists can recruit and indoctrinate. Zero tolerance to terrorist praising.

But how exactly is it terrorist praising? I have a very hard time understanding it as anything at all, much less a clear statement of support for killing people. This can scarcely rank among the 'worst' things Dieudonné has ever said or done.

Yeah, as much as I hate Dieudonné, I have to admit his post is too nonsensical to qualify as an apology of terrorism. He'll probably be acquitted (if he's even indicted). Still, I'm glad he got locked up for a while, to teach him a little lesson.

And yeah, I support a zero-tolerance policy for those who outright express support for terrorism. It's time to fight back.

Coming from the government which fought tooth and nail to hold down the Algerians and the Vietnamese and effectively lords over 10 or so African countries to this day?

I had no idea Hollande was responsible for the Algeria and Indochina Wars. Thanks for enlightening me.

The last thing anyone should want after the Charlie Hebdo attacks is for violent force to be able to "teach a little lesson" when it comes to what is acceptable speech.

I have nothing against restrictions of freedom of speech when it goes against racism and bigotry. Neither does Charlie Hebdo. For the record, they even support banning the FN (which I don't).

What's next? Asking the government to grant money to allow ISIS to have broadcasts in USA? This is a war and people recruiting for the enemy should be detained.

So people don't have a right to express their opinion if others don't like it?
