2000
McCain 288 v Bradley 250
Nader has less traction with Bradley doing a better job of unifying the left, while there is more breakaway support on the right for Howard Phillips and Pat Buchanan. Nevertheless, McCain manages to win with the support of independent voters.

2004
Bush 283 v Edwards 255
Edwards does better than Kerry in the South and some parts of the Midwest, but struggles a bit on gravitas.

2008
Clinton 365 v Huckabee 173

Clinton takes MO but not IN. AZ is a narrow win for Huckabee.

2012
Obama 332 v Santorum 206
Same states, different percentages as versus Romney. Santorum has trouble with social and foreign policy moderates, but doesn't come off as out of touch towards the poor.
