Well they're caving because the theaters caved. Once AMC, Regal, etc. said they weren't running it, Sony didn't really have a choice.

They could still have released it through video-on-demand or direct-to-DVD. All the publicity it's received guarantees that a huge number of people will want to see it regardless of how good it is.

Financially, it may well make sense for them to let the insurance company take that risk.

Can't believe there are people who are genuinely afraid of NK. It's laughable.

I got a computer virus from North Korea after I mocked the regime. I'm now about as cautious about criticizing North Korea on the web as I am about criticizing $cientology.

What were you doing? Clicking everything on a shady website?

Well, he does have an account on the Atlas Forum.

I, for one, declare that all North Korean Scientologists are epic HPs.

What are the chances that someone inside Sony hacked themselves in order to gin up publicity for this?

Absolutely zero percent.

Looks like it's not "zero percent" after all:

North Korea is now threatening to attack The White House, The Pentagon, etc. if Obama retaliates for the hack.

And yet they still haven't claimed responsibility for the original attack.

Why are we taking North Korea propaganda about destroying America seriously all of a sudden? They release these kind of messages all the time.

I bet the real reason theaters were pulling the movie wasn't because they actually believed the threats or that NK would do anything, but were worried too many people would believe that they might, which might hurt business for other movies. Don't want to have to families scared away from seeing the last Hobbit movie or Into The Woods because The Interview was playing on the screen next door.

Yes, that was clearly a major factor.

No but there is nothing in that article to give any ounce of credibility that it was an inside job to drum up publicity, as you originally stated.

Sony has reversed course, and will put "The Interview" in limited release on Christmas, in theaters that are willing to show it:

Lol. Now that they've kicked up a massive stink over it and guaranteed martyrdom for what would otherwise be a mediocre pos they're going to take advantage. Meanwhile were still waiting for the culprits to be identified. Hopefully it won't take as long as mh370.

Indeed. North Korea comes across to us like a comic story-book villain because they want to come across as a silly and fundamentally not concern-worthy story-book villain- much as was the case with, say, Idi Amin or Khadhafi.
