Looks good at first glance, but what do these people stand for?  It's one thing to be against Facism and Communism, but you have to be for something.

It's a Socialist poster from Germany in 1932, showing them opposed to their three main enemies: Monarchism, Nazism and Communism.

The top translates to:

Against

German Communist Party [KPD] leader Ernest Thälmann
Nazy Party leader Hitler (duh)
Chancellor Franz von Papen

I can't remember if Papen was a monarchist who wanted to get a kaiser back on the throne.  That certainly seems to be what the poster is accusing him of though.

Papen played sides... he was actually Prime Minister if I recall correctly, but went on to join with Hitler thinking he could eventually push Hitler around. oops.

Maybe if the Socialists had spent less time fighting the Communists, the Socialists and Communists could have defeated the Nazis.

BTW, all the other parties voted for Hitler's enabling act.

The socialists were mostly insignificant, doubtful.

Furthermore, the KPD was under Stalin's control, I'm not sure if they would have been a whole lot better than Hitler.

There was a lot of bad blood between the Socialists and the Communists since the Communists split from them. But the Communist didn't want to align against Hitler, they figured if he took over they could then take over easier and get a Communist state. Well they did get their communist state, but look what happened before. Gee, sounds kind of like Ralph Nader's strategy, huh? Need more proof Nader is a worthless piece of human garbage?

The Social Democratic Party of Germany made that poster I would wager in 1932. That was a trully bad year for choices:

The corrupt Weimer Government
The jew-baiting Nazis
The insane Communists
And the pathetic and utterly inneficient Social Democrats.

And we thought mutiple major party choices were good in elections. Wink

I would have probably gone with the Weimers in this instance.

yes very much.  gegen means against, as in the famous line from Anne Frank's diary, "Juden, nasen gegen mauer!"  and those people are--well, who the fu--ah, Lunar has identified Papen.  yes, these are the Social Democrats.  They are against Monarchy, Fascism, and Communism.  What's not to like?  Also, this would have been several years into the worldwide economic collapse, so democracy with a side order of socialism would have held great appeal to poor white trash like me.  Overall, it's attractive.  And I like the color red very much as well.  I would have done something like a club in a hand beating the symbols, rather than a hand holding an arrow, but maybe that's some Americana-ethnocentric view that I wouldn't have held if I were poor German white trash at the height of the great depression.  who knows?  overall, 8 or 9 on a ten-scale.

At first glance I thought it was a communist poster, but on closer inspection I was wrong.  I actually quite like it in a retropolitik kinda way.

Oh, and Papen was a naive condescending idiot.
