I saw on Latino Decisions(a polling site that polls Latino voting ) and there was a page on there that said Obama won 44% of Hispanic Republicans in California.

California isn't winnable under any circumstances, but still it's too bad some of the GOP is still playing the "immigrants take our jobs and our taxdollars" schtick.

Yeah but thing is 44% of Hispanic Republicans voted for Obama(not just talking about California Hispanics in general). Romney was a horrible candidate for Hispanic Republicans in the state.

Yes, I realize that. The main premise of my post was that Republicans are alienating Hispanics of their own party through their rhetoric.

I love that California is a locked-in Democratic bastion even more than it was in the late 90s.  It's amazing when you think that Dubya got 44% in this state.

It could be worse for Republicans here. They could have had THIS GUY as their gubernatorial candidate.

The Republicans went out of their way to offend Hispanic voters with their immigration stance in 2012.  It wasn't just what they said; it was how they said it.

An intelligent discussion of immigration criteria, of the need to better assimilate Hispanic immigrants, would not have offended Hispanic voters.  A reasonable discussion of the Dream Act (which affects people who know nothing but life in America), of allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver licenses (so they can be insures if they are in an accident) and that their kids attend public school (so we don't have groups of kids growing up in America not attending school but not being deported) would not have offended Hispanic voters, even when the more conservative positions were taken.  But to hear a Presidential candidate talking about people "self-deporting", of the refusal to even discuss legislative reforms, of the GOP minions whipping up resentment over having to Press "1" for English, etc. served no purpose but to alienate Hispanic voters.
