Has anyone else noticed this?

2004:
Bush lost Connecticut
Kerry lost Colorado

2000:
Bush lost Connecticut
Gore lost Tennessee (oops he wasn't born there)

Have there been any other elections where both candidates lost their state of birth or home state?

In 1992, Bush 41 lost Connecticut, though he won it in 1988.

Gerald Ford lost the 1976 Republican primary in Nebraska, his state of birth, to Ronald Reagan.  I imagine George McGovern lost his state of birth (I'm assuming it's South Dakota, but it doesn't much matter) in 1972.

I can't think of any other examples.

I think it's most interesting when both candidates on a ticket lose their homestates.  Examples of this are 1956 (Stevenson/Kefauver lose Illinois and Tennessee) and 1972 (McGovern/Shriver lose South Dakota and Maryland).  Probably 1932 too if Landon's running mate wasn't from Maine or Vermont (I'm too lazy to check).
