How much better, than McGovern, would Ted Kennedy of done if he was the Democratic nominee against Richard Nixon in 1972?

Somewhat better in the popular vote, about the same in the electoral vote.

Richard Nixon          462
Ted Kennedy             76

Ted Kennedy would have gotten more popular votes and more electoral votes than George McGovern.

The election would still have to be considered a landslide for Nixon, however.

Ted Kennedy is, and always has been, an old line tax and spend liberal.  His brand of politics and philosophy would not have gone over in any state outside of very solid, dependable Democratic strongholds.

George McGovern = Far-Left Wing Nut Job = Ted Kennedy

I'll give Kennedy a 2 point boost in the popular vote because of his name, but no change in the EC.
